Hooking Up SPN Button Board
« on: March 27, 2025, 07:06:49 pm »
So kind of in regard to an older post and making attempts to do research how do you PROPERLY hook up the animator board? I have tried CAT5 from the animator board directly to J3 on the backplane but it seems to do me no good. Am I missing something? I mean I'm gonna have to get a new animator board anyway (since the one I got is a dud) but if anyone has an easy, straightforward to understand setup I'd love to know thanks. For now I'm stuck with "Single Row Animator Command Timeout" or something like that. This Gold Fish build is driving me nuts... lol!  :banghead:

So turns out I need an "SPN" hub which I got my hands on, however when I try to power the hub itself the cabinet power tries to power on and shuts off when powered on. Any solutions?

this has been covered before in this thread:https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=44726.msg237347#msg237347
all you need is an ethernet cable to the backplane and a 2 wire power cable providing 5v and ground.  no hub required.

that's the problem... I simply can't make a 5v harness... I do not have the technical skills like some of you guys do unfortunately. I don't want to risk putting too much voltage to that board. ;-;

I could MAYBE try and put up a WTB for a custom harness but I doubt anyone would have the time to make it but it may be worth a small shot.

One last question... this is the SPN Panel Hub... correct? Or is it different.

Could I use that pic for a WTB ad by the way?

This is BB1? I see your sig says BB2, but my BB2 Goldfish 2 does not have this board.

Gold Fish 2 is a BB2 Transmissive game so factory BB2s that had that game in it only had the USB & Power Cable for the OLED Deck. Gold Fish (The Original, very first one that is a Dual Screen BB1 game) has that board from what I remember that connects to the animator board and to backplane.

Interesting. I am newbie enough and for sure on the BB1. So I assume this is all in regards to the extra spin button on the player deck. Good stuff to know. Thank you.

Recently received the hub, connected it

I am still getting “Single Row Universal Animator Command timeout”

I am ready to give up on this

Do I have this hooked up wrong?! Yellow CAT5 is going from animator board to port and blue CAT5 cable is going from SPN IN to J3 on backplane
