Universal double marquis slot machine
« on: April 26, 2025, 10:50:32 am »
Universal double marquis ultra series.
I got this machine and having some issues. I am new to slots but have worked on a few and got them working.i replaced battery and did a ram clear. I get code 13 and 51 with cherry switch pulled out and insert coin is flashing. I try to put a quarter in and it drops into tray. Coin mech doesnt seem to have power. Rake does not pop out with solinoid also bill validator doesnt take bills in. It cycles like it should on power up. I can see red les inside. Also buttons dont light up. I got into test mode and was able to get reels to spin and hopper test spit out 10 coins. I dont have a manual . Hard to find a lot of info on it. I havent tested power supply. Could it be missing power for coin mech and buttons. Not sure where to test power on coin mech. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jbolt,

A few things to check. Reference the photo's below.

So do you have a sample coin in the comparitor head?

Is the coin comparitor sensitivity potentiometer set for about the 3 o'clock position?

Is there +12vdc at the comparitor right side wire plug. Pin 1 to 6?

When you hold the rake out and insert a coin does it register as a credit, the SPIN button light up and the reels spin after pushing the SPIN button?

With the cherry switch in the neutral door open position push the red Service Switch one time. Is a credit issued? Does the SPIN button light up and reels spin after pushing it?

Are any of the mini bulbs (#585's) in the door or candle working? They all run off of the same 24vdc supply.

Does the bill validator take the bill in for a second and then reject it?

-Randy

I have a coin in comparator. I have adjusted sensitivity. It will not coin up holding rake open and no button lights come on. I dont have a candle light. Bill validator will not take bills but it does cycle when turning on. I see red led lights inside. Which plug on cc do i test

Test the two pins (1 to 6) as show in the photo. The 7 pin plug is on the right side of the comparitor board. You may have to pull the plug out slightly to gain access to the pins.

While your checking voltages measure the test points at the front left side of the CPU board. The test points should read the following;

CPU BOARD VOLTAGES (actual meter measurements on my board while game idling)
Test Points
1) 5.10 - yellow (CH5) & black (CH4)
2) 11.90 - red (CH7) & green (CH6)
3) 29.60 - orange (CH3) & green (CH6)
4) 5.10 - blue (CH2) & white (CH1)

Did pushing the red service button give you a credit? Were you able to play the credit?

Are there any sounds coming out of the amp?

Are you turning the door lock key to the closed-locked position? There's a photo eye on the key switch that's used as an interlock. Take some electrical tape and block the eye, a red LED should come on.

So the 13v from pin 1 to 6 on the comparitor connector is good.

The 5.170v from test points yellow to black is good, it's for the CPU.

The 30.4v from test points red to green is no good. That should be 12v, it's for the sound chips. There may be an open ground on the board or to the ECN2 edge connector pins.

The 30.46v from orange to green is good, that's for the reels.

The blue to white test points are a little hard to get to with the board inserted in the machine. Both are located next to the ECN-1 edge connector. I use a couple of jumper wires long enough to reach outside of the CPU tray. The 5vdc here is for the bill validator permissive.

Earlier you stated that with the cherry switch pulled out to the detent position the "INSERT COIN" light was flashing, is that still the case? If so try inserting a coin again and see if it's accepted since the key switch photo eye is taped over. If the coin still drops through to the tray measure the voltage on the coin comparitor plug from pin 1 to pin 7. With the cherry switch pulled out the voltage should be about 12-13v. With the cherry switch in the center (door open) position the voltage should be close to zero.

Also if the "INSERT COIN" light is flashing or the PAYLINE bulb is lit then the 24vdc is okay.

I will mess with it a little more today after work. At the bottom of cc is a slide for the size of the coin? Should i slide that over until coin doesnt come out and then slide over until coin drops freely. Didnt know if that would cause not to read coin. Thought about it last night but havent messed with it.

That's the adjustment for the photo eyes. There's little hash marks on the left end of the slide. It should be set for three marks from the left side for quarters (see previously posted photo).

Yea the 12vdc is wacko to the sound 5vdc regulator. I suspect the ground from the edge connector to the test point is open. First check the voltage from the red to black test points, is there now 12vdc? Pull the board out and check the continuity from the green test point to the edge connector ECN2 pins A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2. Open? There's a bad trace.

I did a write up a while back on what I had to do with my board to restore the 12vdc ground. Check the link below and see if your board has the same red jumper. Over time that mod may have taken out the ground trace. Install the jumper wire on the bottom of the board exactly as shown in the photo. Installing the jumper should restore the ground to the green test point.

Now install the board and then retake your 12vdc reading from the red to green test points.

I believe it does have the red jumper. Leave that alone and add other jumper? I really appreciate all your help and patience.

So i added the jumper. Not the best soldering job but get contunity. Did have the jumper on the board. I am still getting high voltage accross red and green. Red leds on board i havent seen light up. They are now blinking 1234 1234. No sound. I can still coin up game by hitting test button to coin up and can spin reels. If i hit bonus max bet button lights up and i can play out credits. 13 50 flashing is display. If i pull out cherry switch insert coin light flashes but seams no power at cc. Bill validator goes through start up cycling when powered up but will not take bills. See red led inside.

Sounds like there's still an open ground to the test point. The 12vdc also supplies a 5vdc regulator just for for the sound chips. I'll follow-up on the 12vdc test points.

With the cherry switch pulled out and the insert coin light blinking measure the voltage again on the coin comparitor from pin 1 to 6 and from 1 to 7. Both pins 6 & 7 should have 13vdc.

Unfortunately the bill validator is obsolete and there are no updates. If it is working okay the only bill it will accept is a $1.00 bill. It may be inhibited along with the coin comparitor and the head sensors may need to be calibrated as well.

So i tested the cc again between 1-6 and 1-7 and still no voltage with cherry switch pulled out and insert counn flashing. Only thing that seamed to change adding jumper wire are the four red led lights they blink from left to right constantly. I know this wont have an issue with the voltage issue but is there a dip switch setting for sound. It looks like someone replaced dip switch or re flowed all the contacts on it. I dont hear anything coming from the speakers.

The DIP switches have no effect on the sound.

We need to check for 12vdc on the backplane. Under the CPU board tray, on the left side, there's a plug called CN-12. Check the red wire on pin 1 to the black wire pin 4.
