If you go through the test screens you can change the background.
Does this make anything show up ? Do you get all the colors (ie is your Blue Gun bad in the monitor).

Try swapping Capx chips and see if that makes a difference.

The CG2298 are 64K CG ROMs and 2x the normal size of average ROMs.  You have to adjust with a jumper setting.  You need to change the E17/E16 jumper the other way on the new board to match the old.  IE: just shift it over to the "E17" config.  This is close-ish to the red LED & U21 area of the PCB. See if that makes a difference.

Moving the jumper worked! It got the spare board working with all 5 games and the graphics look fine.

I haven’t tried activating the BV yet, looks like someone put a DBV200 in it. Anything I need to know? Fingers crossed.

I will update this topic when I figure out the original board that is dead.

Another puzzle on this super board...the one that is working. I am attempting to use a set chip to activate the BV and it keeps saying "Remove set chip Bad Game EPROM".

Now keep in mind the game plays great in this board i am using. I am using the wing board.

Have you tried stepping through the test button options to find the BV settings?

The button doesn’t do anything. It never goes into the set menu, just what is shown.

As far as I know XMP00017 requires SET004 to activate the DBV and set it up.  What set chip are you using?

Honestly, Im not really sure. I have an erprom labeled PE+ set and the 512 size on the label.
I suspect I have the wrong set of chips.

You were exactly right, SET004 was the correct match. Im really glad we have you as a reference point, I have never seen any reference material or any mention of the set chip in the IGT manual or otherwise.

I don’t know how you know which set goes with which XMP but you saved the day!

By any chance do you know if a DBV200 will work on this board? It starts on power up but doesn’t pull bills in at all. Someone had pulled the original DBV145 and dropped in a 200. I might revert and see if the old one works and go from there.

Hello friends,
I have another puzzle with this machine. I got a replacement board from K-Lar and swapped the IC’s over and everything worked great. I played and cycled the machine several times.
I sold the machine and the next day the buyer started getting this pixelated garbage screen. At first it would be fine if he re-started the machine, but then it turned into 3 restarts, etc.
This has come up in posts in the past and the cause was almost always an IC mismatch or an IC that isn’t seated correctly.
However, this board, with these ICs, worked great in the test station at K-Lar (I saw it) and it worked great before he bought it.

The buyer pulled the board and inspected all ICs, he verified the daughter board is properly seated but the garbage display gets progressively worse.

What could have changed or what might we be missing?

It clears but as you can see there are no graphics after clearing the error. Look at the last image, the game even plays….you just can’t see anything. LOL

That is likely due to incorrect graphics (MRO, MGO, MBO, MXO) chips being installed for the installed game. Each game references specific sections of memory on the graphics chips. If the chips are mismatched, it can reference a part of the memory that is empty or displaying the wrong images.

So this is a multi-game board with daughter board, I pretty much always played Jacks or better…is it possible the graphics problem is only with one game? Or would it impact all the games?

I played a few of the poker games and never saw any graphics problems.

If I get a picture of the board that shows the chips would we be able to identify the mismatch?

It could that game is not compatible with the CapX and MGxx set that services the others.
Did you check out BrianTs master list and match the up ?

I checked them when I was first troubleshooting the machine but Im wondering if I mixed one of the graphics cards when moving the chips over.
Its just strange that I never had this problem when the game was at my house.
Its was after I sold it the new owner suddenly has the issue. But I will get a picture from above from him just to verify.

Have you tried another CAPX chip, they do go bad after a while.

The Capx + MGxxx is a set. If one chip was bad it would mess with all the games.

If its working for all but one game, then I would suspect that the one game is either not compatible with the graphics set or that game is bad.
I would double check the game with BrianTs master list to make sure its compatible with the CAPx.

You can try swapping the Capx rom with another (same number) to see if that is corrects it, but I am skeptical.
