proper MPU replacement procedure

is there a " proper" procedure to swap in a new MPU to replace a battery damaged one?  do you swap the ram from the old board? does the ram hold the data when removed from the board, or does new new board always require a clear and key chip procedure.

Make sure the new boatd has the correct SB, SG and VS chips, either already in place or transfered from your old board. If the new board doesn't have ram chips move those over. Plug the board in and turn the machine on. You will need to clear probablt a Ram error message and a seperate CRC mismatch error message using the method with the jackpot reset key. No clear or meychip should be needed as all programming info is stored on the motherboard the MPU is plugging into
