Varta battery removal idea

For those of you who don't wish to put a soldering iron to your MPU board to remove the Varta battery, I have an alternate solution.
I ** CAREFULLY  ** took an X-acto knife and pried the spot welded legs off the Varta battery  by sliding the knife blade between the battery ends and the welded legs.  After I was able to create an opening between the two, I took a needle nose pliers and rolled the legs to remove them from the battery ends.  Once done the battery was removed  the legs are still attached to the MPU board.  If you choose, you can  ** CAREFULLY **  rock the legs back and forth until the break loose, OR you can just leave them in place.  I suggest you tape or cover the legs with heat-shrink tubing just to make sure they don't touch.

Haha, this really hits home.  Last weekend, I vowed that we would no longer have a single Varda Battery in any of the S-2000's.  Spent several hours pulling batteries from 19 504B and 1270 boards.  Of course, on the enhanced boards, U16 was also removed.  Went down flawlessly, all machines working great, and no more wondering if I have a leaking battery.  Peace of mind!  :-)


I used the soldering iron to heat and pull them out.  The OP idea also works, have done that years back when I had no patience for the soldering station to warm up, LOL's.

I usually cut the battery of on 1270 boards with a pair of old scissors. I cut the negative side right at the board then rock back and forth to remove the positive. I usually just unsolder on 500 boards because I like to unsolder the coin battery and replace with a battery holder anyway.
