S-Plus and new Bills

I was just wondering if the Treasury has plans to change the $20 bill will the s-plus machines be able to take these ?

There are no further updates for the S+ machines.  In fact the last bill update was new $5, it won't take new $100's either.

I was wondering this myself as I just found out that my S+ won't take the new 100's.  20's are a LOT more common than those!  I count on my S+ as a piggy bank by tossing it the occasional Jackson along with pocket change that I won't miss anyhow.

Besides our "antiques" I wonder just how many other vending machines/POS devices will suddenly need upgrades to still function?  Sounds a LOT like the digital broadcast scam that was forced on us in 2009?

Can a WBA, MEI, UBA or any other newer bill acceptor that is still supported with software updates be installed into an S+ so that any new bills would work ok?

The issue is the firmware for IDO22/23 which is what the S+ uses.  The S2000's and iGames use IDO 24.  So the answer is no.  There is no firmware being done for the IDO22/23 protocol anymore.  The WBA new $5 was the last one ever.

ok, thanks! This almost looks like an IGT decision so as to "encourage" casinos to migrate to S2000 and abandon S+ sooner rather than later, since they could have had JCM use the same ID 022/023 on the newer machines if they wanted to.

Will some S2000 game chips work if installed into an S+ and that would give ID024 to the S+?

No, S2000 eproms are totally different and use different processors anyway so the compiled binaries wouldn't work.  The main way IGT made casino's upgrade was by not supporting TITO in the S+.  JCM would have continued to make S+ new bills if the market would demand, but since casinos were moving away from the S+ anyway, the demand was not worth the trouble.  In fact the new $5 update was made to accommodate costumer demand, as IGT not longer supported the S+ platform.  That particular update was not sanctioned by IGT.

Bill validator updates are driven primarily by memory space on a particular transport. It's not a conspiracy. There are so many things on a bill that the BV looks at, 4 different ways it can be inserted and so many different bills available as they change to thwart counterfeiters they simply ran out of memory space, first on the JCM, then on the WBA. Phasing out the S+ was driven primarily by consumer demand for more features, better sound, bonus games, etc. If IGT had payed attention to the customer base they would have abandoned the S2000 platform about 5 years sooner than they did and would still possibly be the #1 game supplier to casinos

I had once found a protocol convertor. It used ID024 (S2000) and changed it to a variety of other protocols.
I have however not been able to find a price for it.
