how to bench test coin hopper??

i remember seeing a video or diagram on how to power up a s plus coin hopper on a bench with 110 v, but i cant find anything and dont remember what terminals it was . anyone know?

just remove the connectors going to the motor.  you can test the mechanical action of the coins ejecting - and if the brake is stopping correctly.

thats the one. search youtube for bench test igt s plus hopper, and you get nothing. go figure.  i found the knife bent and changed it.. still , it wasnt working properly. looks like its not for quarter. please see pics.

Not sure if this is the source of your problem but, I see that there are several video's that address hopper problems caused by a mix of different coins/tokens in the bin?

Mike,  easiest way to check if you have the right shelf wheel is to place a quarter on the shelf wheel up near the top and see where the quarter ends in relation to the pin wheel.  they should be very close to even.  if there is a gap then you have the wrong shelf wheel for the coin you are using.

How about how to test a hopper on a Bally E1000 series?  It is 110v and can just hookup a plug to it like old IGT's?  All I want to do is see if the motor spins and the plate moves before I spend the $$$ for a control board and star.

ive done ballys like that, but they were EMs. pretty sure the 1000 is the same, but better minds should appear here shortly.

The hopper test cord I made in Reply #3 is very unsafe by itself...I made that video so long ago...lol

It's safer to plug it into a powerstrip first and using the ON/OFF button on the powerstrip to make the hopper run.

The one negative thing about checking a hopper this way is it goes pretty fast and spits out coins all over the place unless you catch them with a cup.


I prefer now to simply put a rubber band around the brakes that surround the motor, you will find that you can turn the hopper wheel fairly easily with one hand, more slowly and safer and watch how quarters rise up upon the knife, go thru the hopper optics and run off the back of the coin guide.

Just remove the spring going to the handle from the backtop of the hopper bowl and the four spring/screws holding the hopper bowl.

Place like 3 or 4 coins directly on the wheel shelf and slowly turn the wheel watching closely if the operation is smooth.

Your hopper needs servicing and cleaning anyways.
