on an S+ you cannot disable the hopper as it is the only means of cashing out.
With the SP1271, though, he should be able to set the hopper limit to zero to make all cash-outs handpays, rather than actually paying out coins, right? It's been forever since I've done that setup, but I think that it can be accomplished with the 1271 chip we had him buy.
Once you have your machine up and running, you'll want to adjust the following settings to change your hopper and credit limits.
With zero credits on the machine (cash them out or play them out), do the following:
- Open the door and press the white Self Test button (next to the power switch) approximately 12 times, at which point the machine should show the number 7 in Coins Played, and 1 in the Credits window. This is the
Hopper Limit adjustment. The Winner Paid window will be showing a four digit number, with the far right digit flashing. Use the Spin Reels button to adjust the value of the flashing digit, and turn the jackpot reset keyswitch on the side of the machine to change which digit is flashing. Adjust the Hopper Limit to all zeros.
- Press the white Self Test button again. The machine should still show 7 in Coins Played, but now 2 in the Credits window. This is the
Lower Jackpot Limit setting. If you do not want your machine to lock up on any jackpots, set this to 9999 using the Spin Reels button and turning the jackpot reset keyswitch, as described above. If you do want your machine to lock up on a single win above a certain credit amount (such as the top award on your machine), set this to a number one below where you want the lockup to occur. For example, on your machine, the top award is 5,000 coins for Red White and Blue 7s with 2 coins played. Set this to 4,999 to make it lock up in an attendant pay if you hit the top award, but allow all other wins to go to the credit meter.
- Press the white Self Test button again. The machine should still show 7 in Coins Played, but now 3 in the Credits window. This is the
Credit Limit setting. Set this to 9999 using the Spin Reels button and turning the jackpot reset keyswitch, as described above.
- Press the white Self Test button again. The machine should still show 7 in Coins Played, but will show either 4 or 5 in the Credits window. If it shows 4, press the Self Test button again to advance it to 5. If it's showing 5, you are now at the
Bill Acceptor Credit Limit. Set this to 9999 using the Spin Reels button and turning the jackpot reset keyswitch, as described above.
- Press the white Self Test button again to save your last setting, then close and latch the door. In theory, your machine should now accept bills or coins, but when you press the "Cash Out" (or "Cash/Credit") button, the machine will now lock up in a jackpot/attendant pay mode, requiring just the turn of the jackpot reset keyswitch on the side of the machine to clear it out, rather than paying out coins from the hopper.
