S+ takes coins, but doesn't register credits

Hello gentlemen,
I have the same game. But my problem is that the game boots, The reels spin, the insert coin light comes on, but the lower half of the candle is flashing. The machine accepts the coins into the hopper so the comparator is good, but no credits get posted. I'm stumped. No error codes are showing only a 1 in the coins played display...

Help!

If the coin goes through the comparitor, but you get no credits, you may have bad optics on your coin-in assembly.  Under the little green board that is under the comparitor, there's a little white button.  With the door open, press the button to see if you get a credit that way and push the spin reels button (all with door open).  If the game plays correctly, then you have bad optics, or they are dirty.  If nothing happens when you push the white button, then you probably need to replace the coin-in optic assembly.

Assuming the test credit button works, the next step would be to test your optics using the inputs self-test to determine if all three optics are working correctly.  I'm guessing that one or more is stuck open, causing the game to not register credits.  If you can tell us which SP chip is in your machine, we can give you specific directions on how to access the optics test in your software.

I'm jumping a post ahead, but chances are you may just need to remove a surface-mount transistor on your coin-in optics board that is known to go bad.  Details on that can be found in this post.  Let's do the test of the optics, first, before you go and modify the board, however.

I have a similar problem with the machine taking most coins but it occasionally doesn't credit one.  Would this be dirty optics?  If so, how do you clean them?

Just thought I'd chime in since I started he topic. All I did was buy another working assembly. I think I paid $30 with shipping. Once installed, problem solved. However in your case, I would start by checking connections to the comparator. Usually unplugging and plugging back in to reseat the connectors. Obviously, disassembling the assembly and cleaning the optics is a good idea too. If an optic sensor is going bad, it would usually be more than an intermittent problem. You could try resoldering the solder joints to the emitter LED and receiver optic too, and go from there.
