There are sometimes upgrades possible for the DBV-200, up to a point when JCM stopped supporting and releasing anymore software updates. Will need to see a photo of the bottom of your dbv showing rom chip, if it is in a socket or soldered to the circuit board and if the rom chip has a label giving the software number. Also, there is usually a sticker on top of DBV show software rev level. Photos are helpful.

Only accepting $1 bill and rejecting others usually means the DBV software is out of date for today's bill designs. The machine can be set to accept or reject individual bill denominations, so you could check that, but more than likely it's the software inside the DBV that is out of date.

I've never seen a SH that was flash, all of them have been eprom in my experience thus far.

Also, the link you posted is for a chip with ID0022/23 for a SS model not an SH. That chip will not work as it is for igt stuff. He will need a chip with ID0044/45. 8linesupply is the only one that has them as far as I know.

Any DBV-200 head from any model or type or brand of slot machine can be taken from the machine, software reprogrammed and then the head can be installed into a different brand of machine. After programming, the DBV bill validator then becomes an SH, SS or whatever setup. Since these machines are decades old his machine could have either type of DBV-200, flash or eprom, from some previous owner doing a repair or update from a DBV-145 installation. We don't know the history on his machine.

Wrong - reread my comment that had the link. I said the note at the bottom of their webpage says Ohio Gaming can update software for the DBV-200. It didn't mean the specific DBV in the photo was one he should purchase, that's just an example. As far as I know they can do all DBV s/w versions available, unless they choose not to do Bally for some reason.

Of course it will need Bally compatible s/w, that was stated earlier in the thread. The point was I told him we'd need to see the rom type on the bottom of his DBV-200 to know if it was flash or eprom (it could be either, despite your experience level). Also there might be a s/w sticker on the rom that would indicate it had been updated to a later rev than any sticker on the top of the dbv. He asked about possible updates to the dbv software so it might be able to work with newer bills instead of the $1 only.

This is Incorrect, 200-SS (Security Stacker) heads are not compatible in a Bally 5500, on top of the physical difference (No Beak) there are less pins for the Transport. The SH/SG is needed for Bally and Software is available up to the New NG $5, A DBV-200 can be Flash or Eprom, doesn't matter if SS or SH/SG..


8Line is NOT the only one who has the chip, actually they bought the master from us off eBay when we first got them years ago from Bally, They charge $11.95 shipping.. and Chip is $19.99.. We will sell shipped for 19.99. I am sure you can even find cheaper from a Chip Whore on eBay but doubt the correct speed chip or has straight legs on it

Forgive me but I see no reference in the link provided that they have ID044/45 available. Maybe the mobile version of their webpage is different and doesn't show that info. That would explain it..

Thanks for that correction Jim and Mr Monoxide, any statements on my part that are wrong. I thought all DBV-200 heads were the same, only the internal software was different, could be interchanged as long as software was reprogrammed.

Ohio Gaming is a pretty big outfit, I thought they supported all major brands of machines, but perhaps you are right and they are IGT & WMS only.
