no disp error

Have a 5 Times Pays machine that was working fine.  I had 156 credits and after not playing machine for about 20 minutes I found the no disp msg. showing.
Events after start up
Get the Display Passes Self Test
Next I get  Reels turn
Cash Out starts to flash
show 156 credits
Cash Out goes out
now alternates between no disp and credit.


Tried:
Reset key
Pulled bill stacker and reinstalled a number of times
Taped the bill stacker cover that you open to take out bills
Not sure were to look next

Turn the machine off and make sure all plugs and boards are seated properly

Does the vfd display anything? (The blue matrix display).  I had this issue and it was a bad netplex chip on the vfd display.  I replaced the vfd assembly (I have the ones that are one piece used in the 6 6 3 displays).  It could also be an mpu netplex issue.  If you have a spare mpu I would try that first.  Then the vfd display.

I have restarted the game a number of times. Also removed and reinstalled bill stacker.  I check the connections ( made sure they were securely connected) on the harness going into back of cash can.,
Now as far as displays
All I get is the typical self test pass
then it has the credits showing and next the no disp start flashing.
The top candle flashing slow
Bottom candle flashing fast.
Will pull the board tonight and look at it.

Have you checked to make sure your door IO card(s) seated properly and your door side wiring all the way back to the MPU is good?

I am assuming the blue VFD does not display anything other than self test pass?  The self test pass is an internal check of the VFD itself and if all it displays is that, then you have a netplex issue somewhere.  Either the VFD netplex controller is bad, or you have some other netplex device that is causing a cascade error and taking all others offline.  I would pull out the validator and disconnect the printer to see if the display shows anything other than self-test pass.  If it doesn't then your vfd display/controller (depending on which version you have) probably needs to be replaced.  If you have a spare MPU, I would also try that just to eliminate that part.

Sry for delay--had a short hospital stay.
 I only see the self test info on the vfd.
I replaced the BV and BS with a new one--also new wire harness from it--no change
BTW I do not have a printer
Pulled MPU and nothing I can see.
I've looked at all the wires in the cabinet--nothing.  NowI did not go so far as to unbundel any of the wires.
I do not have a spare MPU
Anything else?
Can someone point me in the right direction to find a working one?

BTW--I may have this posted on wrong board--I really think I may have a s2000+--what #s on MPU should I look for?
The bottom big board shows to be a Model:1952-0--then you have a smaller board mounted  on top of that. Bear with me --I'm slot dumb.

Do you have a 5-5-2 display?  It will have a ribbon cable connecting the display board to a driver board mounted in the door.  If so, I would try replacing that next.

Isnt the 5-5-2 and 6-6-2 display in refrence to the 2 types of credit and winner paid displays. The numbers being the number of didgits in each window.

Yes it is, and it's not a good indicator of what kind of VFD display you have, since you can replace the older 2 board kind one with a newer one that incorporates everything on the back of the VFD.  Same 2 wire harnesses used for each.


Since you do get the "display passes self test" we can rule out the VFD itself, as Rickhunter said, but that doesn't rule out the electronics that communicate between the display and the backplage.  If you have the older 2 board style (with the ribbon cable), try reseating the eeprom on the board.  Also, do you have a hopper in that machine?  If so try removing that and see if there's any change.

Getting "display passes self test" then blank does not rule out the vfd. It could be intermittent and is crashing after the selfe test has ran. I have seen this a few times it's quite annoying. Im not 100% sure i will check when i get to work, but if the vfd is good and its a problem with the mpu or something in between the mpu and vfd u should get "display netplex link down" on the vfd.

Vfd to me is the actual display, not the related electronics. I've had to repair the displays in the past that had nothing else wrong. Just wanted to clarify.

Depending on the type of display there is only one part so it can be confusing. I just got to work and tested. Newer type one piece if working with no comms will go directly to netplex link down. Older type 2 piece shows display pass selfe test then netplex link down. It its a 2 part display it's probably a problem with the display controller.

Is this a problem you have seen before? The only way i could see the florescent light causing a problem is if it was shorting 24v to ground. I know the 24v line is used in netplex devices but i dont beleave the vfd is one of them. My schematic shows it as 13v.

At any rate, I sent in my MPU, Motherboard and power supply in for check out.[/size]I received my parts back and power supply was[/color][/size]repaired or replaced.After installing everything I still have a problem.After power up1. Hear BV cycle2. Get two amber and one green leds on MPU.3. Top candle -slow flash     Bottom -fast flash4. about 1.5 minutes after start the three lights on MPU goes off5. all reels spin6. get a No DispNotes: 1. I do not get the Memory test msg nor any Netplex msg.2. Thought I had all the connectors to the mother board marked.  However, I did find 2 connectors near the bottomthat I do not know where they go.One is a 10 plug connector with 7 wires, the other a 2 plug.I don't see where they could connect so assume they are for a different application.I did pull and reset all the connectors on the motherboard.Thanks in advance for any help.[/color]
