S2000 sound issues

I just got an s2000 triple diamond.  Issue 1..  There is sound coming out of the left speaker only.  Changing volume has no effect.
Issue 2.... if I turn volume down, the game will, after several spins, have garbled sound.  This goes away if I pump the sound volume up a bunch.
Issue 3..... I'll  set the sound level and reboot the machine.  The sound will be too high or too low for where it is set.  Reboot again, and sound level is different.
I tried to search this forum for answers, but I think my search skill level is too low!  Ant help on this will be appreciated.

The one speaker issue is likely due to the fact that you are using a stereo harness without enhanced sound. A mono harness should remedy that or add a MML board with a SIMM. The garbled or intermittent sound could be a failing sound chip U66 on a 50X board but you might try swapping the sound amp first just to be sure. Also look for wires that are touching each other or grounding out especially those going to the bass speaker in the lower panel.

When the volume level changes is the number you put in the settings changing? Like if you set it at 3, when you go back is it change to 5 or 2 or 8 or something like that? Or is your setting staying the same? If the setting is staying the same you may have a bad speaker or amp issue, but double check all your wiring to all 3 speakers too.
Are you using a multimedia board with sound simm? You won't get stereo sound without one.

Thanks for the reply.  The sound setting remains the same when the sound level changes.  I'm  fairly new at this, but I will try to trace the speaker wires for all three speakers, making sure they are in good condition.  If the sound is turned up to 9, it remains consistently loud, and no garbled noise.  Still nothing out of the right speaker at high volume levels.

I don't  know how to tell if I have enhanced sound.  I also don't know how to tell if I have a steroids or mono harness. I would expect that the correct one was there, but then I'm not the first owner, so it could be.  The guy I got the machine from said he would send me a new sound board.  It seems he might suspect the chip also.  I will do what I can to eliminate other possible sources of the problem.  Thanks again for the reply.

Problem solved!!  There was a wire that had been worn bare, and caused one speaker to not work.  Replacing, and securing the wire got the speaker working. 
The sound card was not seated properly, and this caused sound levels to vary. The connector was loose, and the card didn't seat properly.  Once fixed, volume issues went away.
