I have a blinking zero when starting is this normal?

S-Plus machine SP 1048 chip when starting the machine in the Coins play box I have a blinking zero turn the jackpot key it goes to doubles Zero.  I have open a close the door optical is working.  Turned it all on and off.  And left it overnight next day same thing when turn on.

Are you sure door optic is working?

Does the zero blink off then back on when you close the door?

Normally the zero blinks for a while then the reels spin then insert coin comes on and the game is ready to play.

I have ran into some SP variations that won't let the game come up until the machine is given a denomination.

Open the door and press the white test button until you see a 6 in the single LED display.

If the display above it shows a zero tap the spin button until the denomination of your machine is shown on this display.

Then close the door and see if the reels spin.

If you can't set the denomination with the test button you will need a Set Denomination chip.

You could also have a burned power connector on the backplane board.

Turn off the machine and unplug the 6 pin white connector on the back plane board
and plug it back in a couple of times to clean any burn off of the connector.

It's the board on the floor that the main computer board plugs into.

Yes, some SP chips cause that digit to blink after the door is opened, until a paid game has been completed.  Is your machine functioning properly?  If so, there's no problem.

Can you change the amount that should be right.  Without the set chip.  If it's not blinking.  I can't do that to change it.  Do I need to run the set 58 chip to do this?

Does your machine have a bill acceptor?

if so you need to install the set chip, turn the machine on, press the test button once for a 9--? and set it for 9--1 (or 2 whichever is higher) with the spin button, then press the test button again and press the spin button until your denomination shows then hold the test button in until the display blinks off then back on.

Remove the set chip and put the game chip back in.

Power up with door open, change the 61 by pressing the test button once.  The next number that comes up should clear with the door closed and turning the reset key.

If you don't have a bill acceptor everything above applies except the 9--? procedure.

Like Knagl said earlier, some SP chips make the "Coins Played" or "Credits Played" display blink slowly - until one complete game is played on the machine.
Other SP chips make the candle flash slowly instead.
That's the only difference for the blinking behavior really.
Will your machine accept a coin?
If not, then check all of the components in the coin mechism to make sure they're ALL working properly.
An S+ does not need a bill acceptor to work...they were originally designed for coin acceptance.
