Cleaning reels strips

I've seen the warning post about cleaning S2000 reels strips. What I could not find much info on is how best to clean them if not using a liquid of some sort. In a reply to the post Ron mentions shiny/matte surface. Mine are shiny, not matte. The strips are in desperate need of cleaning but if I don't heed the warning....I may end up shopping for strips. NOT something I'm interested in doing.

You can test a little corner to see if they are the ones that get messed up with a liquid. Use a drop of water on a corner of the strip, if it feels "slimy" then you have the strips that fall apart when wet.  You cannot clean those with anything.  They also tend to fade a lot quicker than the all plastic strips.  I have no clue why they ever switched to that printing method, I don't think they use that anymore as all the more modern stepper machines use the all plastic variety.  If you post a close up photo of the strips, we might be able to tell what you have.

I tested a small area and it was nor slimy. So, I continued cleaning and all is well. Thanks for the response.
