Hula Cards

 I have an RGB 1401a monitor in a Universal poker that seems to have Hula dancing cards. This wave is on the lower half of the monitor and is more noticeable on the lower right side of the monitor. The monitor has had a recent cap job and has a nice sharp picture to it. Is there a direction one could suggest to look to resolve this problem?

I wouldn't worry too much about it.. We had monitors where I use to work doing that, and they were still working when I left.

Are they "dancing" hula cards... wavering, or just stuck in a distorted position?
I don't know enough about degaussing but have you tried that? It may be another cap that wasn't part of the cap kit.

 They are wavering. It just seems to be the  lower half of the monitor. I don't notice any of the text moving on the upper half.


 It's similar to the early games when you hit cash out and the screen would waver when the hopper runs. It's just not nearly as bad and it does it steadily.

On those machines when it does it while the hopper is running it's probably because of the magnetic field created by a motor when it is operating. That magnetic field can affect the crt display and cause shimmy or other movement. Doesn't affect an LCD display because it doesn't use magnetics to move the electron beam like a crt does.

But for what your display is doing I don't know what would cause that. Something easy to try would be unplugging all of the fluorescent light ballasts, the ballast is a coil similar to a transformer and it gives off a magnetic field.

It's possible you have a coil on the RGB chassis causing this, of even the flyback.
