Coin Out Jam

I recently converted a slot to coin and installed a hopper. The hopper pays out a few coins then stops and the machine displays a Coin-Out Jam. On close examination there is no jam. Everything looks fine. When I close the door the machine resets then pays out a few more coins and stops again displaying the same message.

The hopper is very clean including the optics. It was recently acquired and untested. I replaced the shelf wheel with one for quarters.

As a test, I installed a hopper from another machine and it works fine in this machine. The problem is definitely with this hopper. What would be the most likely cause of the problem ? Should I replace the Coin-out optics, hopper controller board or the motor ?

The machine may be assuming there is a coin out jam because the coins are not getting counted properly as they are paid out. Have you checked the coin out counter, made sure it is adjusted and working correctly?

I bench tested my hopper to see it run and determine how well it feeds. I connected 24V leads directly to the motor and turned it on. It ran fast but fed coins intermittently. It will rapidly feed 10 or 20 coins then delay a bit until it picks up more coins on the wheel. It's obviously having a hard time picking up coins even though there are about 500 coins in the hopper. Then I realized it doesn't have an agitator. It lacks that 3 star rubber agitator.

I assume these excessive feeding delays are the cause of the coin-out jam error. I'll order an agitator, install it and try again.
