Bill validator wont initialize

I have a WMS 550 where the bill validator stopped working.  I bought one off ebay that was supposed to be programmed to a WMS 550. When powered up the two lights on the right side light up but it doesn't cycle through. It is a WBA 12-13. When I got into administrative menu, it says bill validator JCM 145/146. The 550 doesn't have an option to select which validator is installed like the NXT and later versions. Any help would be appreciated.

What model of bill validator was the old one you removed (before you installed the WBA from ebay)?

It said WBA 12. The original one was working at one point and after sitting for a few months powered down it stopped working.  I can post pictures of both labels if that would be easiest.

Posting photos might be helpful.

Do you mean the admin screen said "WBA-12", or the label on the old bv said "WBA-12"? Not sure about your wording.

Are you confident that the WBA you bought is a good working one? If the old WBA was working fine then I wouldn't think it would go bad just sitting. Does either WBA pull a bill in, then reject it back after a few seconds? Anything else done to the machine, like doing a CLEAR ram process?

The manual says that in Admin Mode there are 4 choices, one of which is "Tests". If you select "Tests", then select "Currency", it will let you select the bill validator installed in the machine. Does that work?

Also, does your machine need a fresh battery on the cpu board after sitting for so long?
