Can cf cards just go bad?

I have a quick question.  I had a cf card of an old game I had for a year or so when I went over to my friends house he loaded it in the same machine that I had originally loaded it in and I can’t remember what it said but It wouldn’t load, can these cards just go bad. What could’ve happened if he did the same thing the first time. It was kilauea for his bluebird 1 and I have a bluebird 2.

It's rare, but yes they can go bad.  It would help a lot if we knew what error message he got while loading.

Sorry I would tell if you I remembered this was a year or two back and I got the game for $20 on ebay. I got it because my friend had a bluebird and I loved the game. But anyway I was just wondering because it always stumped me, I think it was a validation error on bios but not sure I know it never got to the wms screens.

Yes that. Most failure are from ESD, excessive write cycles(should never happen in a slot machine, they are read only in use), and lastly stray voltage. The stray voltages account for most of the card failures at work, ie: follow the pop spill.

Thanks, that make since for write cycles I know that causes problems with many types of flash memory. But I think it was a real copy from the manufacturer. I don’t know what you mean by pop spill, you mean like water damage, sorry its taking me so long to respond out of town.

Why yes. A bad memory stick will keep a logic from POST. As well as fried logic boards. But go for the low hanging fruit first. You might even have some compatible PC memory laying around if you’re a computer guru.

Beverage spills (beer, wine, coffee, soda pop, water, etc) into a slot machine or on a workbench in the casino can cause problems.

ok, that makes sense. I wish I wouldn’t have got so mad and thrown it away. But after like three ram clears back and forth between black knight and reel rich devil that worked, then kilauea that failed, I started feeling rude asking someone else who owned the machine to keep going through this for me for a game I got on ebay for $20. I’m gonna get a new version, but I’ve never understood how you could know the difference between what bb1 games work on bb2. The guy on here offered me a good deal on this game but I’m just wondering he said it worked for bb2 could i let my friend borrow or bring over to play on bluebird 1. Anyway I’m heading downstairs to play some top dollar multiplay, I always wondered how much one of those would cost. Way out of my price range I’m sure.
