IGT Early S+ cash can (and chip????)

I'm working on this S machine. It does not have the cash can and I'm not sure the client really even cares. I thought I'd throw it out there anyway just to check pricing. Also, is there supposed to be a chip down in that hole???

Never seen anything like this.  pretty cool.  Someone must have added it?  I don't think they made bill validators back when that machine was made in the late 80's.

I'm pretty sure that's an S+ mpu board and an S+ machine.  Look on the eprom labels.

As far as I know, when the mpu plugs into another circuit board (the motherboard) then the machine is an S+. On the model S machines the mpu is connected directly to wiring harnesses. Also, the S mpu board won't have the GAME and REEL chips, it only has a single eprom called the "RS" chip.

I assumed it was an S since the MPU mounts on the left and not in the back like all of the S+ machines I've worked on. As I always say, I've been wrong before!

No biggie - the models are so similar they can get confused at first glance. I don't *think* IGT ever put a bill validator internally in an S machine. There were some S or S+ machines that had the bill validator mounted on the right side of the machine, used to see them at the California in Las Vegas, but those may have been early S+ that didn't have a bv either but had the capability to operate one. One of the best ways to tell an S from an S+ is to look at how the mpu board gets connected.

Do you have a pic of where the cash can goes? or which power supply it takes?  Need pic of area below the bill validator.  I have an extra can of the older style (gears on one side only)

That's a western money system bill unit,  in a S+ machine.  parts are few and far between,  haven't seen one working model that I have ever encountered.

Your first photo shows that is has a DBV-145 head, does it power up & cycle, will it pull a $1 bill in? I'm wondering if the only thing missing is the cash can or bill transport unit?
