S Plus reels keep spinning

I have a S+, the machine has been working fine for Months, now the reels will just start spinning, I did try with the door open 1/4 turn on the reset key and it stopped the reels, after a while they would start to spin again.

Have you pulled out the mpu board and checked it to be sure the battery isn't leaking onto the circuit board?

The mpu is the main circuit board in the machine, it is located in the lower part of the machine, stands vertically, either on the back wall behind the hopper or over on the left side wall. It is mounted to a metal tray, has a round black knob attached to help remove it.

The mpu board plugs into a smaller circuit board below it that is mounted horizontally on the bottom floor of the machine. While you are checking things take a look at the power supply cable and connector that plugs into the motherboard, make sure it doesn't have any darkened areas that would indicate a bad elec connection, like shown in photo below.

Whats the theme - it could be spin to you win and your just very unlucky 

I would take out the MPU as suggested - look for damage and remove the reel and game chips and reseat them.
I would also pull your hopper (you will need to do this to get to the MPU anyways) and look under the mother board to ensure that there is no coins shorting something under the mother board.

With the machine off and no game in play are your reels stiff ? or do they turn freely ? if so I would pay attention to the burnt connector that was pointed out as this is the common culprit of your symptom.

Thank you, I will take a look, I just replaced the battery 6 months ago, hope its not leaking.

All reels spinning slowly is caused by a tilt. When this happens, an error code should appear on the LCD display. The code will help diagnose the problem.

41 42 43 are the error codes and represent reel 1,2 & 3.
Albiet all will be spinning but 41 means the first reel is the culprit.


It is possible you have a bad stepper motor. Your reels are held in place by a plastic clip.  If you keep getting an error with reel 2 (error 42) then swap reel 2 and 3 to see if the problem follows the reel vs keeps reoccurring.


If the problem doesn't move with the reel then you should check the bank of 5 resistors on the corner of the MPU board.

If you see a burnt one steal resistor 4 or 5 as a replacement.
They are unused (you don't have reel 4 or reel 5 - despite the system being capable of it).

Ok, you didn't mention that earlier, so you are probably ok about battery leakage, you would have seen it if there was any back when you replaced it. Be sure to check power supply connector on motherboard, that is a common problem on older S+ machines. Post a photo of the motherboard and its white power supply connector if you aren't sure.

swapped reels after getting errors 42 and 43, moved reel 2 to 1 error cleared and did not move, I did unplug all 3 connectors at the reels, I'm guessing I was getting the tilt errors because of a loose connection.

Hopefully you moved your reel strips around too otherwise you might get some funny pays .....
