Looking for tournament chip

Hello. I'm brand new here and bought my first machine a couple of days ago. I would love to get a hold off a tournament chip. Does anyone know if one exists for my machine?


I have an IGT Double Stike .25 with an 8000 coin payout for 3 double red 7's. I think it might be a 96 as I found a sticker inside.

I think there are tournament chips available for a lot of different IGT S+ machines. Someone familiar with them will let us know.

Here are a couple of lists of tournament chips that might be helpful. The "ST" number in the left column is the chip number that gets installed. I don't know if these lists show all of the tournament chips but they probably have most of them. The first link looks to be more complete:

It might be helpful if you tell us your machine's SP and SS chip numbers. Sometimes a game is the same (clone) of another game. If so then you might be able to use an ST chip from the lists above. Here is an easy way to find out your machine's SP and SS chip numbers:

Yes mine is the one in the picture that you linked. So I got my chip numbers, 001309 and 008249


By looking at the attached ROMs it doesn't appear they have one for mine?

From what you report your machine has an SS8249 Reel chip and an SP1309 Program chip. Good news, that SP chip is tournament-compatible. So maybe you can install one of the ST chips in place of the SS chip and get the tournament mode you are wanting. But I didn't see an ST chip listed that was specifically for your machine. And I'm not expert in this tournament chip stuff, so let's wait for others here to give advice and comments. It may hinge on whether one of the listed ST chip games is a "clone" of your Double Strike game.

I don't think IGT made a tournament chip for every possible game, there was no need to do so because for tournament play at the casino they could round up enough of the common machines that are listed. But it seems odd to me that your machine would have a tournament-compatible SP chip, do you know if it had a different game installed at one time in the past, then was converted to Double Strike?

Sorry I wish I knew, however the previous owner didn't give me any info regarding it except they owned it for 3 years so I I have no idea the history of it.


Knowing my luck my machine probably won't be able to be put into tourny mode. Lol. After I bought it I started googling slot machines and read about the tournament mode and was like omg, yes that sounds really cool!

Check back now and then to see what others have to say about this. If none of the listed ST chips will work with your Double Strike game would you be willing to convert it to a different game to get tournament play ability? That may be something you will have to decide to do or not do. If it comes to that another option would be to get another S+ machine, one that would let you install an ST tournament chip. The S+ machines have dropped in price this past year or so. You could use the ST chip lists above to help select the right machine.

I've played in slot tournaments at a casino, they are exciting, mainly because you are competing against other players, the clock is running and there's a chance to win prizes. But I'm not sure how much fun it would be for a home player, you might find it isn't as much fun. If so, the SP1309 chip has the ability to turn off tournament mode and the machine will then act like a normal S+.

Being that I don't live in a legal state i was very fortunate to obtain this one so looking for another is probably not an easy option for me.


Ya I've never played a tournament before. Thought it would be cool when I have a bunch of people over to have a friendly competition I guess. Lol.


Ya that's what I was hoping for, to be able to turn it off and on at will!


Basically it's just a conversation,  entertainment piece in my man cave to accompany my virtual pinall and mame machine.

As long as you keep the same coin denomination (quarters) then game conversion on an S+ is fairly easy.

It involves changing the 2 pieces of glass artwork on the front of the machine, and the 3 reel strips. Usually you'd also need to change the SS Reel chip but since you'd be getting the ST tournament chip it would take the place of the SS chip. I think that's it, just glass, reel strips and the ST chip.

State laws vary a lot, here is a list. If you live near the stateline sometimes you can work it out to buy a machine and have it shipped to a friend or relative in the next state over, then make a short drive to get it. Or shop for a machine in that state and just go there to buy it. In general, as long as you aren't trying to run an illegal casino operation or you don't have people complaining about losing money to you then the local authorities aren't interested in bothering you.

There is not a tournament chip for Double Strike, sorry.  The list rokgpsman posted a link to (here again, for reference) lists all of the known S+ tournament chips and themes they support.

It is possible to change your game theme from Double Strike to a game that has a tournament chip for it.  You would need to buy a "kit" (or the individual parts) which includes new glass, reel strips, and EPROM chip(s).  There's not a ton involved in changing your game over to a new theme, and then you'd have two games to be able to change between periodically.  The following FAQ explains how to change a S+ machine from one game to another: http://www.newlifegames.net/spset/gamechange.htm

I think I'll just keep it the way it is for now. I really like the double feature it has. Someday if I get bored of it then I think about converting it.....
