First, I don't have any experience with S2000's (just 3902 and 044). I have a new friend (retired Navy) that has, what I'm assuming to be, an S2000 with Double BlackJack installed.


He said it worked fine for years but one day showed a 21 error and hasn't worked since. He didn't have a reset key, so I got him one but that didn't clear the error. I've read a lot of posts here and tried various things including opening/closing the door to clear errors to no avail.


The machine is set up for coins (see attached pics of compairitor). The bizarre thing (to me) is that there are no cables connecting it to the machine. He says it's always been that way (he lives alone and no one has messed with the machine) and he would just put in coins, pull the handle and drink beer, in that order.


Any ideas where to start to try to get this running again? Thanks!

With a 21 error code, it's an S+ machine. Check to see if the displays blink when the door is shut and latched. Also check to see if a coin is jammed inside the acceptor. A cash can door not completely closed can also cause the machine to "see" the door still open.

Mod, can we get this moved to the S and S+ forum?

Just called him and had him check the cash can and checked the doors. He re-seated it all then closed the door. Shows 21, turns blank for second then shows a solid 21 on the leftmost display.

I'm not really familiar with that type of coin acceptor but it says on their web site that it has a coin optics in it. He may need to remove the acceptor and see if he can clean out the coin path. They can get very dusty etc. If the display is blinking when the door is latched then it sounds like the door optics are working correctly. I'm wondering if the optics on the acceptor are dirty.

The thing is, the acceptor is not plugged into anything. I can pop it right of of the machine (4 clips) and right back in. Should there be cable(s) going to a board on the machine?

There are ribbon cables running to a board behind it. What's back there? Like I said, I'm not familiar with this brand.

If I pull the acceptor out, there are no cables hooked to it. Now power, no ribbon cables, nothing. So it's not powered or communicating with the machine in any way.


Is there a way to obtain another acceptor with appropriate cables? I have a couple of 3902 ones laying around. Will they work?

I just looked up the IDX stuff on the internet. Does the cover lift up and off to expose anything underneath it?

Can you take a pic of the door inside showing more of it. So we can see what's on the inside? Like a pic of the door from a bit farther back. It doesn't look like a regular coin mech. But if the insides are there, it could be replaced by a CC16 coin comparator.

On your first picture it shows the indicator light and colors. Does it show a green light with the power on?

That plug in the front sure looks like something should be plugged into it.  :Scratch-Head:  I guess my point is, for that indicator light to be on, it has to get power from somewhere.

This picture shows a spring hinge. Does it open to the right to see what's behind it?
Something else I just thought of.....the other day a member was having troubles with his coin comparator. It didn't seem to have power. With the power off, he unplugged and plugged the connectors on top of the MPU a couple of times and it started working again. He thought maybe a connection was not making good. He said it fired up and worked after that.

Thanks for all the replies so far!


The guy lives about 30 minutes away and he's not good with cameras, etc. So, I'll need to make a trip out there to take more pics to see what we are dealing with. But I do know it definitely is not getting power nor data. I'm an IT Pro by trade so I'm no stranger to these types of things...


I was thinking it may be easier to just buy an acceptor we know will work (with all the necessary cables, etc), if I knew what/where to buy it.

I would try cleaning the optics below the comparitor and see that they are lined up and nothing blocking the path. Use only warm water, no alcohol.   The Q4 may have been removed from optics board if no cables have been connected to comparitor to avoid the 21 error.  Ask owner, when machine was working, if he put in extra coins if it ate them then spit them back out after the spin.

This style of coin acceptor has the circuit board inside the acceptor. The ones I’ve seen, you had to slide up a plastic cover to get to the board and plug. I my self could never get these to work. I had 6 or so in some S2000 slots a while back. I changed to a comparitor.
