Game King 3902 Audio Problems

I have a Game King with the 3902 MPU.  I have installed a base chip M000781 and two  SWC00046 chips that are mounted on a multi media lite board. The games all work fine except some of the normal audio sounds seem to be missing.  I get sounds from the left speaker but none from the right speaker.  The typical "ding" when a pat hand is dealt is missing and so are the 5 "dings" when  Max Bet is pushed.  I have checked out the right speaker and the speaker wiring.... all appear to be correct.  The sub woofer works ok.  Any help would be appreciated.

In the diagnostic menu there should be a test to individually test the left and right speaker.  My guess is you have bad wiring and the right speaker may not be connected.

The diagnostic tests all seemed to be OK.  I will dig in deeper and check out the wiring.  This is not a big deal except that the sound on other Game Kings like this one are different. I can live with this as I prefer not to fix stuff that isn't broken.

So during the diagnostic testing, you go sound out of both speakers?  You might have an issue with your sound simm then.  Do you have another one to test?

Hello, I know this post is a few years old but Im curious if you ever resolved the audio problem….or if I just bought your old machine! Lol
I just purchased a 2003 Game King and all audio sounds great in the setup and test menus, but when in games there is only audio in left channel and static overshadows any audio you hear faintly in the background. Some games like Keno have sound but it cuts in and out.

If your game using a SIMM card on the MPU board, try removing it and rubbing the gold contacts on the SIMM sound card with a white eraser...it might help.

The multimedia lite board is also prone to issues.  I would source another one and give that a try if cleaning the contacts doesn't fix it.  They are not that expensive (typically under $30) and should still be easy to find.

Also you might to want to read this thread on the S2000 side (uses same multimedia lite board) with one speaker not working.

I will try this but if it was the simm card wouldn’t it have the problem when in sound options setup OT test?

I first removed the simm card and did an audio test. Only the synthesized sounds are available to test and they work but only in the left channel. Play Keno and the synthesized audio is fine but only in the left channel. Put the simm card back in and Digital sounds show up in the test menu and play fine in both channels. Play a game and it’s almost like the standard sounds are conflicting with the digital sounds because they both chop in and out, almost like one note plays digital, one standard note and so on. I will read the suggested link in the s2000 section. I did clean with the eraser and I suppose it made the digital sounds more prominent but it didn’t eliminate problems.

The synthesized audio has always been mono and output to only 1 speaker.  Early machines had a harness that fed the mono signal to both speakers, so it is normal for the non-sampled sounds to come out of just one speaker on the newer cabinets.  If you are getting stereo sounds in the diagnostics, but not during gameplay, I would look to replace the sim at this point.

The S2K capacitor suggestion helped with the static problem but did not eliminate the botched up audio issue. Just for morbid entertainment I will follow up with a video. When I play caveman Keno it plays two non-related audio tracks and then starts playing Chubby Checker really loud and it won’t stop playing until I go into another game and initiate play. Hopefully a new simm card will resolve but I found another post from someone with a similar issue and he had to replace all boards.
When I look to purchase simm cards they say to designate which game, the only GK option is 5.0, can someone look at my boards and verify?

Well, there's your issue.  Your SND simm, if it hasn't been overwritten, is for a game called king pin.  If that's the case, you will need the correct sound simm for your eprom set.  Since there are no labels on your eproms, it's impossible to determine what eproms sets you have.  You need to boot the machine and take a photo of the software version you have.  Depending on how old the game is, it is usually under accounting then version.

Thought I should comment as I was the one who started this thread.  I changed out the MPU and Multimedia board using the same software.  Now the missing sounds are back and working.  Not much help but that's what fixed my GK.

Hopefully the theory that my board has the incorrect simm proves true, six card mark is helping me source a matching simm. I will update once I receive it. Fingers crossed. Thanks for updating with the end result. It might help others in the future evaluate both outcomes.

Three years later I noticed I never posted the resolve. In my situation the machine had the incorrect audio simm. Sixcardmark got me up and running.
