Glass paint flaking

So cleaning up my machine and some of the paint is flaking off the back of the glass. I'm looking to just stop it coming off, don't want to repaint as I think it helps show it's age a bit. Lots of googling only comes up with a couple of things about triple thick glaze and using a film whilst it dries. Over here in the UK think it's a little harder to find, is there any difference between that stuff and car lacquer anyone know? It's just a clear coat just don't know if it will react with the paint, I just have a few cans in my garage.

I'm guessing you are referring to this post? http://www.pinrepair.com/restore/index1.htm#bg   If so, I'd suggest it to be your best direction.  It a an excellent post and Clay is well respected for knowing his stuff.  From what I've seen the pinball backglass painting is much more susceptible to flaking but preservation techniques should be the same.  Unless the flaking is extreme (lifting paint like in the examples) I'd be shy of using film.  Basically you are just trying to stick it back down and prevent more lifting off.

I have used Triple thick glaze by krylon to preserve the graphics on older pinball machines.
Works real well, applied 2 heavy wet coats waiting 20 minuets between coats.
Only used the plastic wrap to push down a few wrinkles with my finger.
The clear coat needs to be dry, but still soft enough before applying pressure as to not move the original graphics.



Always test a small area as you don’t want to ruin your glass.
