Author Topic: Bally E-809 Reels Won't Stop (Read 5129 times)

I have a nickel Bally E-809-6 that I recently obtained. The machine was serviced by a reputable firm before I got it so its been cleaned, lubed, etc. The problem is that the reels wont stop unless I push the test button a couple of times followed by pushing the reset button then pushing the test button again. This stops the reels and activates an electromagnetic switch on the door.
I'm pretty good with old jukeboxes but this is a little foreign to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello...

With you game, is the problem only with the first pull of the hand or will every one? Do you see any numbers in the win meter when this happens? I have a couple ideas, but need just a little more information before I proceed.. I donâ€™t want to head down a wrong road by guessing.

After the reels stop when I go through the button pushing, the next pull is normal except the reels won't stop again. So I guess its with every pull. The win meter reads: 50 .000

If itâ€™s happening on every pull there are two things to check. You have 2 switches on the left rear side of the reels assembly. Those are the kick and arm switches. Make sure that they are riding on the cam. Do you have a manual? You can run test 3 to check and see if the switch is still good. This is where I would start.. These switches donâ€™t show a code if they go bad. Only test 3 can tell you that. I was wondering if you might have a code 41.. That would be a bad reel reader on reel 1.

I do have a manual and will check out the switches when I next get a bit of time. Starting out to be a crazy week. Thank you for your help! I'll let you know what happens.

The switches are indeed riding on the cam.

Pushed the test button three times then pulled the arm. Got code 0.2.0. This time the wheels stopped when I closed the door. Deposited a coin and the handle pulled normally but again the wheels didn't stop.

Am I missing something more to the test? Thank you once again for your help.

Tested the kick and arm switches with ohmmeter and they appear to be OK.

I will have to get the manual out and tell you what test to go in if you had your manual look at it find the test for the switches test your door switch through that test open and close the door make sure the display tells you the doors opening and 50 means door open
And does the Tilt light come on if not you need to replace the Tilt light so we know when it comes on if the doors which is not sensing closed it will tilt every single time and not stop the reels

reels don't stop -
1. kick/stop switch issue - already checked
2. readers are not responding - do a 5 test - if all zeroes - issue with readers/connections/control board/io board
3. door open issue - do an 8 test - if machine functions - reels stop - then issue is with the door closed switch(s).

yes that's it test 8 since I fell off that roof the memory of the early 80s with those machines in Tahoe is pretty well toast

1) Tilt light working but not on when door is open
2) Test 5 not all zeros
3) Test 8 reads 8.0. 0.0.0. Reels do not stop when arm is pulled during test 8

Just another thought. The machine was transported on its back when I brought it home. Could that have messed something up?

Itâ€™s possible that coin got behind a board. Did it work before? I would try swapping around the kick and arm switches. Double check the switch levers to make sure they stay on the cam. I have seen them where they could come off on one side or the other.

Thank. It was a 1950 3100. I sold it years ago. Needed the money when we were expecting our first baby. It was in the family 20+ years. Was my fathers, it became mine after his death. I rebuilt it from the frame up. Small block Chevy and auto trans. Drove it as a unfinished rat rod before they became cool. Only finally finish it three years before I sold it. I also had a 53 3100 panel truck, but sold it before I finished it when we moved from AZ to MI in the 90â€™s.

you have the door open and activate the coin switch when you did the 8 test? should have shown 81 not 80

You lost me. Wheels stop when you trip the door closed switch?? Can you post a picture or short video.
