Newbie with another error 12, new battery and error 61.

I am also having a similar problem and would like to double check before I order chips. I picked up a 1996 S-Plus Triple Diamond machine with a typical error 12, pulled board replaced battery and now I get error 61 with candle flashing but would go to 61-1, tried several cycles and always back to 61, I read another thread that somebody stated to remove the cmos chip for a few minutes and re-install, I did this this morning and wow I was able to get a chime and 61-1, closed it all up turned the jackpot 1 time appeared to do something then returned to 61 and no ability to get 61-1 back. FYI observations when turning machine on, reels lock, bill validator cycles but no lights, coin slot does light, no florescent lights, no hopper sounds, goes to 61 with top candle flashing.


If I need to order chips, which ones?

If you have a smart phone take a picture - then email it to yourself - when you do that - you are given the option about picture size. Choose Small.
Then save that picture and attach it to your post.


Another method is to open the picture on your PC - then use the snipping tool and capture the picture and save it. The captured picture is very low resolution compared to the original and can be uploaded as well.


Regarding the chip - I like the SET 12 or SET 90 and any Clear chip will do. Most of the vendors on our home page can sell you the correct chips.
The SET 12 is pretty universal the SET 90 has options for progressives but only work with the newer 1200 series of game chips.

The top candle is just a warning that the door has been opened. It will turn off after the first paid play of the machine. You need to get it out of the 61 loop before you can progress much further. The florescent lights may just need starters. It sounds like you've tried all the hacks, but you probably need to get a clear chip. Personally I would get the machine operating and then use your set chip for the b/v.

Thanks for the reply's and help! I have attached pictures of chips, board numbers and dip switch settings. I hope they upload. Would a picture or numbers of the BVM help pick the set chip?

a clear and a set chip is what you need to do any changes.

the SS chip number tells you the game payout

the SP chip is sometimes dependent on what game you have.

typically a set 15 chip will handle most of the games.

you can look up the SS chip number in the Bible,

e.g. if you have a 2 coin double diamond machine, look up 2 coin multipliers and then look up double diamond, it will display the ss chip numbers and their respective pay tables.
