IGT S+ Based Slot Machine ... Endless credits accumulate on power up

I've been working in the arcade industry for many years but have very little experience with slots.


I have a problem I was hoping someone here might be able to help with.


I am doing some work for a local arcade, and the location has a half dozen slot
machines made by AGS (American Gaming). The machines are called "Free For All",
and are running off of the IGS S+ board (Model # 75505704).


Two of the machines when powered up in the morning will start adding endless credits.
The game will start with zero when turned on, then rapidly add credits one at a time
and never stop. If you turn the power off, then back on it will display an error "07"
until you turn the operator key. After that, the credits stay on (so if you turned
it off with 2999, you still have 2999 credits). Now if you turn off the machine
and turn it back on 10 minutes later, the credits clear to zero but will start
rapidly counting up again.


2 of the machines do this consistently, 1 of them does it once in awhile and
the other games are OK.


Would anyone have some insight as to why this is happening ? It is not the
coin comparator, they have been swapped with other machines and work fine.


The regular tech talked to AGS before they went out of business and they knew what
caused this but the boards were never sent in for repair (obviously a few years
ago).

That is one of the nicest and cleanest S+ MPU's I've ever seen! haha
There's no Game [C35] or Reel [C36] chips but the main processor chip at [U54] is something I've never seen...
It's definitely not an IGT chip but rather some of a "free play" chip or maybe a "demo" chip?

What S+ game is it trying to run?
We need a photo of the reels with the main symbols on the payline and the award glass.
Under the edge of any reel strip should be a set of numbers for sure.

I agree thats one clean board!  Does that chip say free 4 all token wheel?  Sounds like a promo machine for signing up for a players card or something.

Very different...almost like a Barcrest-type of machine.

That means there's another computer in the topbox driving the bonus spin wheel.

The topbox computer is connected to the motherboard below in the machine via a 7542200 Interface board.

This is the same board that is used to communicate between the machine and the "backroom" or SAS configurations.

I don't see how the machine would work without the Game & Reel chips missing from their sockets.

The only way possible is that it's somehow all programmed into the processor chip?

Is that a pile of coins or tokens to the right of the hopper? Did anyone pull out the hopper and inspect the back of the machine for any loose coins that might be acting as conductors?? I actually see more strays in a couple of the photos. When I see that, it makes me think someone moved theses machines without taking out the hoppers.
I realize you said two machines are having the same issue but at least this will rule out a short somewhere.

Since there is only one programmed chip occupying the processor socket and none in the other sockets like a normal S+ machine, I'm only guessing when I say that everything is programmed into that processor chip which also runs a bonus wheel in the topbox unit.

Since no one here has seen this machine or has that processor chip, your only bet is to swap the MPU from one machine into a similar one next to it to try to pinpoint the problem.

See if the problem follows the MPU board into the other machine while the other MPU works in the problem cabinet.

Another way is to read the chip with a programmer and compare it to another chip read from a different cabinet.
Compare the two chips to see if everything is correct on them.


It's very possible that the problem machine has a "stuck" logic signal as well.. in this case, spitting out credits prematurely.
The "stuck" signal sounds very similar to the dreaded [61-1] error the S+ platform is known for.
However, I don't know the contents of your special processor chip and I don't know if it's even capable of "reading" a Clear chip to perform it's job of clearing a "stuck" logic data signal.

In essence, a Clear chip erases all the machines' game settings and accounting data from the memory chips located on both the MPU and motherboard.
I don't think you'd want to try this until it becomes your last resort, should you be unable to find another machine to test the problem MPU.
