Sorta newbie to S+ machine

Hi guys,


I picked up a Double Jackpot Haywire S+ machine today on CL. It has the dreaded 12 error code. I have seen the videos and the threads about it and I believe this is what I have to do. Please correct me if I am wrong, I don't want to cause a 61 boot loop.


-don't do a jackpot reset until the battery has been replaced(I don't have a key so I can't screw that up)
-Remove the dead soldered battery(already did that)
-replace the battery
-press the test switch to convert 61bb -> 61b1 code
-close the door to convert 61b1 -> 65b1 code
-then press the jackpot switch or press the test button?


Ok so here are my questions:
I have ordered a 1/2AA battery holder SMD because I don't want to solder in a cell and have the same thing happen. Is that going to be a problem with mounting at all? I think I saw another user do that.
I don't have a jackpot reset key, will I need this to complete the procedure to get the machine off the 61 error? On the video, it showed a JP reset performed after the 65b1 code threw and that fixed it. In the thread it says not to do that and press the test button instead. So which is it, and will I brick my machine by using the jackpot reset like when doing it on a 12 code?

You must have a jackpot reset key to clear code 61:

Hold test button in until you hear a ding and see 61 change to 61_1
close door then turn jackpot reset key one time and wait for machine to reboot.
if you get a 65_1 press the button and close the door wait for machine to reboot
insert coins and play.

In case you don't know. The test button is located right next to or behind the on/off switch. With machine on with door open push and hold test button until the display changes to 61-1 then close door and make sure latch is all the way down, then turn j/p key. Highly recommended to get clear and bv chips along with your 2341 j/p key. If after turning the key the machine goes back to 61, then you will need to do a clear.

Yeah I saw the test button, it's in the same spot as the reset on my Bally EM. Thanks guys for the info so far.

I don't have the key right now. Is there a way to jump the key by pulling it out and shorting it with a screwdriver or possibly 3d printing a key?

I guess you could jump the two j/p wires for a half second.

Sure. You can use 2 jumper clips and bring them out of a hole in the side of your machine

remove switch from machine
route J/P reset wires through hole for switch

doe the 61 reset sequence

route wires back inside
re-install switch and wires

enjoy machine

Why not just order a #2341 key from any of the NLG vendors?  That way you're good to go.

I ordered a key earlier today, just I won't be in by tomorrow when I swap the battery with a holder.

Battery is replaced, got the machine to run, but it won't accept coins or bills. Bill acceptor sounds pretty bad on boot also. Coin comparitor light isn't on, proper coin is in the mech, but pushing the white button to override the coin does make the machine work. Bill acceptor also refuses to even try and take in bills.


EDIT: got the coin acceptor working by replacing the coin with one from the 70s and turning the +/- pot in the comparitor all the way counterclockwise. Bill validator DBV-200 is not accepting bills though, and set chips are on the way.

The bill acceptors do that noise. Pretty standard.
You will need a SET Chip to activate the acceptor if the bezel is not lit up.
If your buying a SET Chip, also get a Clear chip at the same time.


The coin comparitor light does not come on when the door is open and of course you can't peer into the machine when the door is closed.

Try changing the coin in the comparitor. I have had that happen to me for no good reason the coin just looses its magnetic properties.
If this fails to work - we will want to check out your door optics.


When you press the white button a couple of times and close the door. Do the reels spin and the Insert Coin sign light come on ?? This is a good indication that your door optics are good. If they don't come on the machine might think that your door is open.


[size=78%]You can get a head start on diagnosing the door optics by using a digital camera (or your cell phone camera). The optics send out a Infrared pulse that can't be seen by the naked eye but this shows up on Camera as a bright glow.[/size]
You will only see the emitter not the receiver. The emitter should be the fixed optics on the side of the cabinet and the receiver is on the door.


There are also other coin-in tests you can do with the white setup button.

I said before its was a DBV200 unit..but anyway here is your picture.

Sorry, I had gone back and skimmed over the posts. Must have missed that it was dvb 200. Remove the cash can. Loosen the 2 screws for the unit. Notice the handle on the left of it. Push it down and you will notice the rear of transport will raise. Disconnect the 2 wires on left and 1 on right and remove the dbv. Inspect it well. Open the transport and check for a jammed bill. On the left side you will see gears, turn the motor gear to make the unit turn. Return the dbv to the machine and push all the way back. Lift the lever on the side to seat it all the way down. Tighten the screws on the front. Plug your wires back in. The 1 on the right, make sure it is making good contact. Quite often the door latch will hit that wire and bend things a bit. Replace the cash can. Next turn the machine on and push the test button until you see a 2_0 or 5_0 in the display. Turn the JP key until you see 9_? . It should be 9_1 for the bv to be active. If it is not then you will need the set chip to change it.

Do the other checks. The bv should do the normal cycle even when not enabled. Once it is going thru it's cycle, start with $1 bills. Software never changed for them. Most likely the newest bill will be the big head 5. You can still find good old style 50's and 100's at the bank. The best solution is to upgrade to wba.

I did take it apart, nothing seemed to be out of place. I put a bill in while it was off and turned it on and it detected it and rejected it before going through its normal start up. No jams though, looks clean inside.
