sound cutting in/out, then died

Hi,

The sound on my S+ no longer works. Opening/closing the door to get tokens caused the sound to stop working, but opening/closing the door later it turned on again. This went on for a bit, It quickly became rare for the sound to work after a door close and at this point I dont think it works at all.
I assume it is a bad wire or bad connection of some sort.

How can I figure out if it is the wire or the speaker, or if the solution is to just buy a new wire can you help me figure out which one to replace?

Open the belly glass door and check the two wires connected to the speaker.  It's the green and white wires in your pic.

Thanks so much for your help! I dont believe my model has a belly door latch, so I'm going to unscrew the metal barrier. I've attached pics, do I need to unscrew that screw by the coin funnel? Am I doing this right? Lol

No. don't unscrew that.  Here is the latch you slide to the left:  Hold onto the belly door, don't let it fall open and break the glass.

There's a button on mine but it seems to be attached to the comparitor (pic related).

No not that button.  Your belly door may still be locked.  The lock is straight to the left of the coin comparitor.  You may need to remove the lock cam if you don't have a key.

If you are talking about pic related, that's the lock for the main door (I installed it myself, didn't do a great job but at least bugs can't get through that hole haha)

The belly door has its own lock, although by the time you got the machine it may have been removed.

The first picture attached below shows the two different locks (click on the picture to enlarge it).  The second picture shows a machine where the belly door lock has been removed, and replaced with a black plastic plug to make it look nice, but the plug does not lock the door at all.

To open the door, unlock the belly door lock (if equipped), and pull and hold forcefully on the "belly door pull" as indicated on the first picture.  Be sure to have a hand in front of the belly door, which is the glass below the player button panel (with the spin, bet max, change, etc. buttons), as the door will fall open once you've successfully pulled on the pull thingy, and you don't want to smash your belly glass.

Alternately, with the belly door lock unlocked (if equipped), you can slide the silver locking bar from the inside of the machine, as sixcardmark indicated earlier in Reply #3.  Again, have one hand ready to catch the belly door as it opens so you don't damage your glass.


Edited to add:

Upon further review, it looks like you have an earlier style S+ with the credit display to the right of the reels, and no bill validator.  The instructions and pictures in this post may not apply to your model of cabinet, and I'm not familiar enough with the older cabinet to know how the belly door opens.

That's exactly right. Its coin op only and the credits are on the right side of the machine.

I don't know anything about those early s+ cabinets either.  There was only one key/lock hole in the door? 

It could be the volume knob on top of MPU not getting good contact, try turning it up and down all the way a few times then back to where it was and see if that helps.

The early S+ machines don't have a belly door. And the speaker sets at a bit of a different angle because of no access from the front. I think like sixcardmark that you need to roll the volume wheel back and forth a few times and see if that helps. In reply number 2, your top picture, the bottom circle and screw and ell shaped plate are right in front of the speaker.  That green and white wire running in there is your speaker wire.
