Hi All!

Iâ€™ve searched thru the forums and have most of the info I need to get myself in trouble, but wanted to ask a couple of questions to get some feedback and direction.

I have a game king with a 3902 board, and would like to change my game menu listings as well as change the max bets on some of the games. I have a key 22, but it will not go into the keychip menu upon reboot. Is it mandatory to do a ram clear? Iâ€™ve just been selecting option 3, and am afraid to do a clear, as I have heard you can lock the machine up if the license info isnâ€™t input correctly... but maybe Iâ€™m overthinking this all.

Iâ€™ve looked for a 17 chip, but all I find is the s2000.

Also, having a sound issue- very low sound coming from the left speaker. Tried volume adj, as well as replaced the sound card and the in line amp. Is it possible that one of the sound chips is bad? I had a crt screen that took a crap, and am a bit concerned that it took something else out. Now have a nice LCD. The sounds for super 8 race and caveman keno come through, but the user feedback sounds for the poker games are the issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi - some possibilities:

1. Could be a loose board or chip; make sure all of the chips/SIMMS are well seated; make sure the MPU board is also properly seated in its connector; Sound problems are usually loose chips or boards
2. if you have the optional multimedia board attached to your 3902 you may want to remove it and test without it;
3. Could be a bad sound SIMM - but check all connections first before going down that rabbit hole.

You do not need to do a clear to keychip the machine. After you remove the keychip what does the system do on the next boot? It should take you into the keychip menu. If the keychip is known to be good then as an absolute last resort you can clear and keychip the machine.

After boot, it simply starts back up as if nothing has happened. I have read that some members have seen this, but it works on a full clear only. I have no issue with doing this, Iâ€™m going to be resetting most of the menu options anyway. I just want to make sure Iâ€™m not going to cause any locking issues, or screw something up that I canâ€™t revert. Is an S2000 17 keychip compatible with the 3902?

As far as the sound, I will try cleaning the contacts. When you say multi media board, are you talking about the board above the 3902 main board? There are 2 chips installed on that board that say sound 1 and sound 2. I was assuming that one was synthesized sound and the other digital maybe?

That's the multimedia board; the game can run without it; I think the sound chips can go on the 3902 directly if you want to rule out the multimedia board as a potential problem.

Sound chips must go on mml board.

I have a 3902 with no mm card and the sound chips are on the mpu.

When using the key chip you must have zero credits on the machine. I've had issues with key 22 not wanting to go into the menu but if you clear ram & apply key chip it will usually work. Do NOT clear EEPROM or you will lose all settings. Clear ram only will lose current game stats which makes no difference because it should have zero credits to start with. The low sound from one speaker is likely a bad MML board. It's pretty common when they start to go bad. They are cheap. I have tested ones & can supply any key chip(s) you want.

What SIMM do you have in there? That game uses no SIMM. Did you remove the MML board or does it not have one? That game would use SWC00046 chips for sound & the MML for eproms not a SIMM.

Never had an MML board; came just as you see it. SNDF DSS00589 16MG

DSS00589 is for GK5.3. It does utilize SIMMs. GK4.1 does not. I added a picture to my previous post. Do you have the SWC00046 chips?

No - unless they are the unmarked ones in the board on RAM1 and RAM2 behind PXL1 and PXL2

This board had sounds in all games; played it for several weeks before swapping it out for an 044.

Static RAM chips are in those slots. The game may have some sounds but not all. Card flip sounds are pretty generic to all poker games. The DSS SIMM in the MPU slot is doing nothing. It belongs on a SIMM based MML.

Wierd - all of the games on this board have sounds; caveman keno has the volcano and dino sounds; slots have sound; poker has sound.

Yes - zero credits. I will try the ram clear.As for the sound, I have swapped the MML board and the in line amp as well. Same thing. Game sounds are simply whisper quiet from the left. I also donâ€™t think the side woofer on the right is working either. Itâ€™s all just strange. I thought it may be the chip as when I go in the diag menu and test the sounds, one of them doesnâ€™t make any sound at all during the test. (Canâ€™t recall if itâ€™s the synthesized sound or the other one). But I am getting SOME sound, just whisper quiet.

Tried the ram clear only... no dice. It even gave me the ram error message, and hold the test button for 2-3 seconds. Then it said to verify all options before putting game in play. I hit ok and it went right to the game selection menu. I have also tested the battery, and itâ€™s good. Think I may just need to get a 17 and try it.

Ram clear, then apply key chip! Then shut off. Replace base chip. Turn it back on. Do not close door. Key Chip menu should appear.

I selected the ram clear option, and the keychip menu on reboot option then restarted. No keychip menu after reboot with the base chip. Am I missing something?
