Information Overload - S+ Red White Blue --- Just simply confused

Hi All --


New member on this site who just picked up a very nice Red White & Blue 1989 S  .25 cent machine.  This is my first slot machine!  So, thought I would ask a few questions before I buggered this up.  I have spent the last day reading some of this from manuals to online searches.  Either Im not the sharpest tool in the shed or some of this is a touch complicated.


1. Everything appears to be working
2. 1792 credits show on the machine
     How do I clear those? 
3. The coin Comparitor is in place with a quarter.  However, the coins just drop through and not into the hopper?  Too many credits?  When I tested the machine out seems it took the quarters.  Maybe in moving something slid around?
4.  Id like the machine to payout at some point.  Best option to load the hopper?  just dump quarters in?

After pressing cashout and hopper empty timeout keep dumping coins back into the hopper and closing the door until all credits are gone, then go back into setup menu and set credit limit to 9999.
Another trick is to get a normally open pushbutton, remove the hopper and coin tray,  and run two long wires from the switch, (so it hangs outside the machine) connect the wires
 to the upper right and middle left contacts on the hopper plug.

Then close the door and tap - tap the pushbutton until all credits are cleared.
A more drastic measure would be to remove one leg of the battery from the game for about 5 minutes then reconnect the battery then re-set all game options starting with 61 then 61-1 procedure first.

Thank you for the response.  Currently, my HOPPER doesn't dispense coins when I push "PAYOUT" button.  I probably only have $30-$50 in the hopper.  Does it have a minimum before it starts working?  I'll grab 100$-$200 more this week when I can get to the bank.


Also, any idea why the game just passes through the quarters now?  Too many credits not the machine?

1st of all, the hopper won't payout if the game has a bet on it and hasn't been played.

Also, the hopper will not work if the machine is locked out because of a larger hit than the hopper is set to payout for.

Another thing too, if the hopper is jammed, it needs to be dumped to clear any jams.

The hopper needs at least a handful of quarters to work...however, much depends on how worn out the hopper wheel nibs are and whether or not the correct wheel is installed in there for your quarters.

The words in red are highly contradictory, to say the least!

If you can post up a link to a youtube video or something or a simple photo of the machine powered up, we may be able to help you get your S+ up and running the way you want!

You have a nice looking older S+ machine.  Can you make sure that the cherry switch under the button for "Cash Out" is actually getting activated/pressed when you press the Cash Out button on the player panel?  You can use other known good buttons as a reference -- look on the inside of the door as you press the "Spin" button and you'll see the player panel button pushes down on a small switch inside the door.  Make sure that the small switch for the Cash Out button is getting pressed in a similar manner when a player pushes that button.

As was mentioned earlier, you will need to make sure the machine is at the end of a spin, not sitting with credits added waiting to spin.  Also, make sure you're pressing the correct button -- it's not the red "Change" button, it's the Cash Out (or "Cash/Credit") button just to the right of the red change button.

Since you said the machine accepted quarters prior to being moved, I would suggest re-seating the sample coin in the coin comparator (slide the labeled part to the right to remove the coin, then re-seat it to make sure it is sitting in there properly.  You can also adjust the sensitivity potentiometer to make sure it is less likely to reject coins.  Using a tiny screwdriver, turn the adjustment screw in the lower right corner of the comparator back and forth a few times (this will help clean off the internal contacts), ending up away from the "+" (ie. counter clockwise).

The problem I see is the win of 3 Blue 7's which = 450 credits, when it clearly states the machine is set for 400 max credits.
The settings for the insert could be wrong of course but the hopper is functioning and trying to pay out the whole amount on the credit box in the display panel.

The only thing really is to keep putting the quarters back into the hopper until it finishes paying it all out.

After it's done, go into the dipswitch settings and set the hopper for max handpay at 400 credits to match the display glass insert label.


The dip switch settings may be right on that label on the back of the door!
