Bally Super Dice model 944
« on: November 03, 2019, 05:41:32 pm »
Hi.  I recently bought  Bally Super Dice machine model #944. After being told it worked and provided hours of fun, I found out that was not necessarily the story.   When I got it home and started to check it out I found that it does accept quarters and the wheels spin but there is no payout.   I know nothing about slot machines except the little knowledge I found on the internet.   After surfing and reading what info was out there, is that I possibly need a coin hopper.  If there is anyone who might be able to help that would be great.   Thanks

Does this game not have a hopper?

No it does not.   Looks like it pays in credits.  I have been playing it and once you win with credits, you have to use the credits first before putting in any quarters.   Still trying to figure out the wins?   What I mean is that what I think is a win isn’t. Does anyone know or have some type of manual for this model?   Thanks

From the photo, it looks to me like it was never designed to have a bowl attached to the hopper assembly,  for holding coins.

I just noticed the added picture above. If that’s the correct hopper with a payout board. It looks like the motor and bowl were used somewhere else. That might not be too hard to build out if you can find the parts.

I’m wondering if it has a key to change from credits to payouts?? Like the 891 does?

more pics of all sides of the lower unit would be great.

attached is the only info I have.  You're looking for a w-1046-1246 schematic.  I should have the 1130 odds unit diagram, but it won't likel;y be too useful.

if you have no luck finding that schem, the 935 reel dice or 942 australian reel dice is probably similar.

wrt debugging, it'll work the same as just about any slot.  A pic of the glass with the payouts and some info on which pays work and which don't is ideal, but the problem is often dirty/misadjusted wiper<->contact plate connections.

It might not.  While most 891 models had the operator-selectable coin or credit switch, the base model 891 (the 891-0, I suppose, though Bally didn't call it that) did not.  It only paid in credits and had no paycup on the front of the machine.  I don't know if that version had a hopper or not.

Hi,   I just inherited one of these. For some reason there is no payout tray. When you put in a quarter, it runs through a trip wire mechanism, down a ramp and into a pvc pipe and drops into a bucket located in the cabinet on which the slot machine sits.  The small slot at the bottom is a coin return. There is a counter showing how many credits you have accumulated. There is a button on the side near the top of the arm where you apply how many credits you would like to play for your next turn. If you put a quarter in while you still have credits showing, the coin ends up in the coin return. I'm guessing it would be up to the establishment where it's located to payout according to what the counter is reading when your finished playing.? My question is how to zero out the counter for the next player? Somebody had their head way up you know where, when they designed this model.

I can't speak for this machine, but most of the 891 models have a key switch on the right hand side of the cabinet above the handle.
Inserting a key and closing that switch causes the replay register to count down to zero.

Looks like a mechanical version of a "Progressive Craps" game. Before I started at IGT I worked with an engineer and we designed a TTL version of the game.

The dice were two boxes with LED's on them. Place your bet, press "Spin Dice", the LED dice would dance around and show a result.

The pay table on the slot glass had the same payout amounts. I bet the mechanical version came first and the very old person who hired us (Johnny Husser) wanted an electronic version.

He lived right across the street from Liberace and I would see him walking his 6 dogs around the block dressed to the nines in one of his show costumes.

The engineer later became the head engineer at Fortune coin, then IGT, and took me with him as his engineering technician.

Hey Badbaud, looks like you have had quite a history with the Las Vegas slot machine business. I bet you have lots of stories to tell.
