IGT S+ Triple Cherry - Error 3100 - Losing my mind

Hello,


I've been battling my machine for a few months now by reading posts and trying the solutions. I've made it through error 12, 21, 61, 61 1, and more. Error 3100 has has me stumped for a while now.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.


1) Error 3100 flashes then 1 on the screen. It is constant and does not change if door is open or closed.
2) I had issues with the door optics and hard-wired it. I believe it is working because test 13 will show 13 1 and 13 0 if the hard-wire is connected / disconnected. 
3) The 10 coin payout test works as it should. 10 coins drop with no issues.
4) I've tried the 2 green wires by the bill box both connected and disconnected during all tests.
5) I replaced the coin optics.
6) I've cleaned the hopper optics and no coins appear to be jammed in hopper, knife or under / around the hopper itself.

The pair of green wires on the cashbox should be wired together for home use since you're not using the cashbox switch.

Error code [3100] means that the hopper brakes are not stopping the motor in time when the last coin goes thru.

Instead, this could be happening....>>>

If the hopper wheel has nibs spaced too far apart for the coin you're using.

for ex. you're using nickels/quarters and the hopper wheel is meant for large tokens but you have a nickel shelf installed.

What happens is the next nickel/quarter closes the optical beam between the hopper optics because there's too much space between the wheel nibs.


One of the door optics isn't in a closed state.

To check this, when you close the door, watch the [Coins Played] display carefully.

The zero should go out for a few seconds as you push down on the door latch fully.

If the zero ( or whatever number is in there) does not go out, then there's something wrong with the wiring in the hard-wire on your door optics or the door optics are not aligned correctly. (Use the marker & masking tape trick to line them up)

You must check the 3 door loops (Cashbox switch, Belly switch, and Door optics).

These three loops must be in a closed state in order for the machine to work.

Also check the wires going to the hopper plug. Pull the hopper out and look at and reseat the wires on the plug that is mounted on the floor of the cabinet.

The door optics are designed to operate with a pulse (ie. the machine typically sees a rapid flicker of 1/0/1/0/1/0/1/0, etc. when the door is closed).  You should not hard wire the door optics together.

A 3100 error is indicating that the machine believes that an extra coin has been paid out.  To clear the error you must open and then close the main door.  To fix the error from happening, you must determine why the machine believes it has paid out an extra coin.  A very common cause of this is that the spring that pulls on the hopper brake is either disconnected or broken.  The hopper brake is a little piece of plastic that, when the motor is de-energized, springs into place to abruptly stop the hopper wheel from turning.  If the brake isn't getting engaged properly, the motor just glides to a stop, and in the process an extra coin will be dispensed out of the hopper, causing the 3100 error since the machine detects that an extra coin has been paid out.

Note, you will most likely need to restore your main door optics to normal factory configuration (ie. do not attempt to bypass them or hard-wire them together) to get your machine back up and running again.

Thanks to all three of you!!


I took the hard wire off the door and hooked up the optics, reseated the connections for  the hopper, replaced the hopper spring and connected the green wires.


3100 error is now gone!


Now it's not registering coins, but I will read for a while and start a new topic if needed.
