i dont know a lot about these.  when i first got it, the first reel would never stop after a pull.  traced it down to a bad pin in a connector on the driver board.  its coins up, will take up and register up to 5 coins. handle unlocks, reels spin, and stop in sequence. then thats it. it never finishes the play , or pays out on a winning combo. at that point, it needs a reset. however, a reset does nothing.  if you hit the test button, then reset, it does reset and is ready for more coins. then, same routine as above, it never finishes a started spin.

Could be a bad reel decoder board, mounted inside the reel mech.

wouldnt i get an error code from that?  would it show up in a reel test?

When you do a test 5 and move a reel does the symbol number change. Your reel decoder board could be putting out  a nothing, nothing, nothing every time you spin and 3 nothings pays.... nothing.
