No lights on CPU 039 board
« on: January 04, 2021, 08:27:47 am »
Not sure where to start but it all started with a coin out jam error.  When I removed the CPU I found it had a green varta on the board with low voltage.  So I removed it, cleared and keychip it.  When it came back up I got even more errors.  The open door M was on and the L (assume Logic) was flashing.  I also had a meter disconnect and the coin out jam error was still there.  So I installed a new varta, cleared and keychip, when I put the cpu back in to program no lights at all.  I can't even get a keychip to work now.

Other notes
JCM no lights nor does it cycle
No Sycn is displayed shortly on monitor
2 of the I/O cards have led lights
Printer does have power
meters are disconnected and have a jumper installed

Post a real good photo of the Varta area only with a photo near 1000kb in size.

Guys with a lot of experience can tell you if that board is any good and/or repairable.

Is this a 3902 board or a 3903 board?  check to see if U72 is removed  ( right near the heat sink ).

There is also a U69 onboard near the U72

Looking at mine, I don't have those ones.

If you remove a Varta battery from a 3903 board then you also need to remove U72 or you will get an door open MCLB error.

Make sure your power supply is fully seated in the connector and check the +13VDC output voltage.

Just about any red wire and the cabinet with a multi-meter set to DC.

I do have 13V of power.  the side light where it says insert bills is working and I made sure there was 13v.  Couple of new items.  When I power it on there is crackling noise coming from the speakers. If I power cycle the machine two times in a row on the second cycle the front button panel light up.  Also the jcm does not cycle when the power is on unless I remove the cpu.

hmm...sounds like your power supply may be weak?
Disconnect the fluorescent lights, the printer and the bill validator.

We need to get the MPU to boot up first and back to displaying something on the VFD reel glass display.

All the other stuff we'll add -on one at a time by powering down, adding on something and then powering back up until the MPU does NOT boot up.
There you'll find the suspect unit.

Ok so your power supply is good, that pretty much leaves the MPU as the suspect.  It was working (well at least booting) until you removed and reinstalled the battery.  I just wanted to make sure your power supply was OK before swapping the MPU.

It did work after I removed the battery but I got more errors.  I installed the new battery and I was able to clear it, but when I put the M chip back in no lights.  Looks like I will have to purchase a new cpu board and start there.
