How does one know which color bands to use in a BB2 reel game?

The optic bands are actually orange not red.  There are only orange and green bands.  The game determines what color bands you use, there is no "tell" but typically certain series of games use orange bands and others use the green bands.

I'm trying to set TPIR PLINKO,

To find the correct color in the beginning what I did was put a different color strips in each reel , then I turn the machine and read the errors, red was the only reel that didn't gave me a error, after that I put in the other two red strips I had . I can't remember if I used orange, I will try it later on this weekend.

Are you sure that the plastic bands are red? 
Because Rick Hunter said that there are only orange and green bands.

Actually per Wms the blue bands were also used in bb2.

I've only seen blue strips on 5 reel bb1 games, although technically, the later versions of these games used a CPUNXT2 family OS and the games were compatible with a cpunxt2 mpu.  But on native bb2 cabinets, I've only ever seen orange and green strips.
