why not a gameking instead?  Much more flexible platform and easier to find parts for.

Honestly, if he is going to get himself into a video slot/poker/keno machine, it is much better to buy one that is fully shopped and comes with a warranty from a reputable dealer.  The monitors on these things can be nightmare if you get an old monitor with tired caps and CRT.  Why not drive the 9 hours or so to Virginia (I believe that would be your closest state where you can find slot dealers for home use) and walk into a showroom and pick what he really wants, and not just settle because it was available locally?

No warranty needed or shop job, I would be the repair guy so thats not an issue.  I would go through it and shop it out for him prior to delivery.  I repaired a Gamemaker that I got in a lot of slots a few years back and gave it to my father, he has yet to have any issues with it.
