Reels running at half speed?

My latest symptom...


I ran several thousand credits on my S2000, and in the middle of spinning, reels 1-3 slowed down to half speed, and they sound terrible... What could have happened?


They turn in the right direction, but on startup they run slow and don't stop - just spin at a slower speed for quite a while. I didn't want to let them run like that in case it might cause additional damage.


Ideas?

You have a reel tilt. When they are spinning slow open the door and turn the jackpot key. The reels should stop. Close the door and all should be ok

What causes a reel tilt, and what can I do to avoid it in the future?


I was talking on the phone standing next to the machine, and pushed the spin button. Mid-spin it went into the slow mode.
I wasn't touching it and it wasn't getting shaken or moved at all...

Usually a general reel tilt happens during a spin, most likely cause is the machine is seeing the door open, even though it is not open. usually caused by optics aligned on the fringe. Also have seen a weak cabinet optic cause that problem. By weak I mean that the angle of the acceptance field is reduced to a smaller width, so any vibration or movement will cause the tilt.

to see if it is the problem, during a spin or just sitting at idle, grab the bottom corner of the main door and pull up on it and move it around, watch the alpha numeric display and see if the "door open" prompt comes on.

The door seems to have some sag on it already, so that could be it. This is the first I've seen it after running 5000-6000 credits through it, so maybe it won't be common. I can certainly look into optics alignment - I do remember bumping it when I was opening and closing the door prior to it happening, so maybe that's related.

Check the screws on the door hinge also

I have also seen this happen when there were to many things plugged into the same outlet as the slot. Someone years back had this problem and found out the circuit had a refrigerator and a sump pump also on the same outlet. So when the machine was playing and if the sump went on it drew power from the slot causing this issue.

Thanks erbs - The circuit does have stuff on it, but none of it was turning on/off at the time. I also have power going through a high quality surge suppressor.
I do believe that I had the wiring harness for the door optics snag once as the door was closing, and that might have mis-aligned the optics. I fixed that and tries to align them, and no repeats yet...
