S2000 Generic Sound Question (Solved: It Was the 502 Hum)

Hello everyone,


I have an S2000 running a 502 MPU without an MML board installed. I had a question on whether or not the sounds are playing correctly. When I play a game, while the the reels are spinning, there is a “tick tick tick tick tick” sound that’s in the background. I can’t tell if this is a problem or not. I have a video of it here:

Reel stop sound is selectable in options. If you're not using an enhanced sound simm the only options are none & solenoid.
No speaker sound.

I have the solenoid turned off. I’m hearing the sound in the speakers. It’s in the background, definitely not a real stop sound and happens more often than the reels stopping. Sounds electrical (almost like radio interference) but not the humming or buzzing people normally complain about on the 502s. To me it’s a distinct ticking electrical noise.

Maybe I’m hearing things...


 
Could having a stereo harness running the mono sound cause any issues? I know I could upgrade the sound. I have a few MML boards and 042 SIMMs, but I like the generic sounds.

The static is from the 502 board. The 504 fixed that issue

This is one of the reasons why IGT made the 504 version.
 From what I heard, there was too much bad interference picked up in the audio traces on the 502 circuit board

Okay thanks guys! I was expecting the fabled 502 noise to sound different. But now I know what it does indeed sound like. I will do that mod I read about where you improve the grounding by soldering a bunch of bodge wires to the back of the MPU

Yep...yours has that crappy mod IGT recommended but didn't really work.

There should be 6 other short green wires soldered on the circuit side as well...>>>
