Need Troubleshooting advice

I have a nice AVP in great condition that started throwing tilts that ONLY occur during the bonus and specifically when all led's go red. This game has been on the machine for quite some time with no issues (years). I have cleared/wiped and reinstalled just to make sure it is not software related, but the error is still occurring.
It looks like the main cause is "hardware peropheral group reel backlights error 0X00020001. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What is your 8-Pin DIP Blackfin Chip number on the Reel Board??  Should be at least "5" (BFB0005). The Reel board "Flash Reel Driver" version should be at least "30" (BFRD0030) or you'll get intermittent errors during bonus rounds (Board driving the Multi-Color LED's). If you're running a "BF:4 - FRD:28" set up, upgrade and it will likely solve your problem.

I will take a look tonight. This game has been running on the machine fine for three years though (no changes in game). Does it make sense that a problem would just start?

Specifically, I mean a problem with flash versions on the reel controller.

IGT released a service bulletin about it, I believe. It was mostly found on Dolly Parton and 3-Reel “Respin” machines. But the problem was the same as you’re describing.


I’d start there before changing out boards/parts.

I have had this same problem on two different SAVP's now. Both required the same repair. The LED light board in one of your reels could be defective. Swap your reels to different positions. See if the error changes reel numbers, they are numbered 0 to 2. Common sense said it should be identified as reel one, two, and three. But IGT made it reel 0, one, and two.  Replacing the LED board within the reel fixed the issues for me both times. Both of these machines had been playing fine, by the way, then one day they puke. Hope this takes you to the problem.
