Bally 800 series intermittent issue

I have one here I have been playing with off and on for a year now, sometimes reels will just spin, slide the reels out and lock them back in and it will complete the spin, I went over all the connection on the jones plugs, decoder boards and reel board, sometimes i will do it once then be good for 20-30 spins sometimes not, so i went ahead and changed all 3 ics on the decoder board and it improved it that day, but just went over and played with it again and almost every spin does it....i dont know where to poke next with this its driven me nuts for a long time

you mean an E series machine like a E-809 or E-873?


if so, the "bally reel games"  board covers those.


fwiw tho, have you tried tapping on the micro-switches on the left side of the reel mech that are detecting the shaft position (or just thumping the mech without removing it)?  The idea is to determine whether it's the shock of reseating the mech that makes it work or the changing of the electrical connections. 


there's also the switch test function that could help.
