Looking for an S2000 MPU

My friend's S2000 MPU is being eaten alive!!
It's a 501 version.
If I touch it and smell it, it's like a car battery!
Somewhere there's a broken trace under that acid-eaten covering.
I've done a lot of soldering over the years but micro-soldering traces that small is a little out of my league.
I have never tried to search for 28-30ga. wire! haha
What solvent wold I
 need to eliminate the acid from further corrosion?
It has "Display's Netplex link is down" error and says "No Display" on the other red display windows.
Help!

There are many posts about cleaning and repairing the boards. Most use vinegar and water I believe. Search around the forum you should be able to find what you need to clean the board.

As for wire to repair. If the break is close enough to just ad solder to bridge the break, that will work. If you can not solder to the broken trace - you can run an insulated wire one side where you can solder a wire to the other broken side you can solder to. I use 24 to 22 AWG stranded wire or solid. If you really want to use a smaller gauge wire > strip some insulation off a section of stranded wire and remove one of the strands to use. Be sure to insulate it. I use Teflon sleeving when I have to use small wire. (most of the time there is plenty of room on these boards for 24 to 22 AWG insulated wire for repairs) Typically 22 AWG stranded wire is 7/30 meaning 7 strands of 30 AWG wire. If you solder a piece of that to a board trace and there is no chance of it shorting or contacting another trace or piece of metal, you would OK.

I usually try to find a VIA hole to install the wire or a lead of a device to solder to if it makes it easier. Plus, it helps when you, or someone else sees the wire - say running form a connector pin to a device pin - that would let you know the trace is broken and has been repaired.

It's painstaking work that's for sure...I find the soldering part easy, trying to find the bad trace a little harder.

It's a good thing I have magnifying fluorescent lamps and cameras to see everything clearly.

I have to remove some larger components to get underneath to the smaller traces.

I'm amazed at how much damage there is from the battery acid....it turned the trace coverings to putty and just falls away from the trace so many are uncovered and unprotected...covers are like flaky now.

The copper traces have many stained black spots which I think is the acid burning into the copper itself - making the resistance much higher on those particular lines than it should be I believe....causing bottlenecks/breaks in the traces themselves.

I found some nice 28 - 30 ga. wiring from a fan motor winding that should work fine.

Great work. Sounds like you are on the right track. Let us know how it turns out. Painstaking work for sure, not sure if I would have used that word to describe it. I would have described it with 4 letter words that I shouldn't put here in the forum. 

Patience and attention to detail and you can get it working. May not look pretty but it can work again. That will keep it out of a landfill, that's good. There is a member here that does this type of work, don't remember who it is. He must be a Saint as I believe he has repaired many boards, and apparently enjoys doing it. I enjoy repair, but have too much on my plate to attempt those kinds of repair. I'm glad to see there are people around that can do this kind of work. Seems it's a dieing breed these days.

Yes!

I find the round Exacto knives best for scraping off the gunk to expose shinier copper to attach fresh wire to.

The black spots I saw earlier really was spots where there was NO copper left!!

The "black" I saw was actually just a pitted hole where there USED to be part of a trace!

When zoomed in with a microscope, it looks like a battlefield!! haha
