You may be right. In my mind when I plug the hopper into the machine with a battery on the SSR everything works so I am thinking the wiring between the SSR and the workings on the hopper is good. I wish I could be of more help and I appreciate yours.

why did you replace the cpu board?  was it because of the hopper problem. ?

try and put the original board back in the machine, this should cause it to go into a 61,61-1 , , when it is up and running, does the machine operate normally? does the machine recognize the door being closed?  do you have a clear chip?

did you measure the voltage on the SSR logic side?  did you trace the wiring with the information I provided?  this would eliminate wiring and problems with the motherboard. this way you would know the wiring to the connector for the cpu board is good.

I think something else is causing your problem, this is a very simple machine to work on and get running, only works one way, cannot modify how it is programmed. have to go back to the basic's to start at square one to try and figure it out.

Sorry Jim about this late reply. Yes, I replaced the CPU due to the hopper problem. When I installed the "new" CPU I did get the 61-1 code, cleared that and the machine worked as intended. That is until I tried to cash out some winnings and the hopper did not work. I do have a clear chip. Anything mechanical, I am at home but when it comes to electronics I am lost. When I read your post on tracing the wiring, I have to admit my eyes glazed over. I felt really bad because you spent so much of your valuable time researching and posting that info so, I got on my knees and stuck my head into the belly with flashlight and meter in hand to educate myself. It seems my back and knees will not allow me to do this very long these days but I am still working on that.

Most of the sellers on the home page can sell you a SET and Clear chip. Its the kind of thing you will spend more $ for the shipping than the chip.

The SET chip replaces your Game Chip, and lets you activate and set the denomination for your bill validator. ie setting it to 0.25 gives you 4 credits for a $1.
I use tokens so I SET mine so a dollar gives me 100 credits so I can quickly place credits on the machine, every thing from the token size to the labeling all says 25c.
Once set you switch back to your game chip.

The Clear chip works the same way but brings your machine back to factory settings, all the internal accounting, etc is wiped. The first thing you will notice is no reel sounds when you play, no stop sounds etc.
You pop in the clear chip, in place of the game chip, you hit the spin reel button and it counts down, when it gets to zero you switch back to your game chip.

You can check out Ricks FAQs on the home page (bottom right) for more detailed instructions on the use of the two chips.

Per Jim (whos knowledge I very much respect) - suggested it might be good to run a clear chip through your machine, and see if this resolves the hopper issue.
It sounds like everything should be working - except that its not. The working theory so far is that the game is not triggering the SSR, to cause a payout to occur but using your 9v battery you can do it manually.

Just so we are all talking the same Taxonomy the MPU is the removeable board on the tray and the motherboard is the fixed board inside the machine.
There is a CMOS chip both on the MPU and the motherboard and that is how the machine keeps in sync for the gaming regulators. Ie during a power outage mid spin etc, power comes on and the spin finishes just like there was no outage at all, same number of credits on the machine. The clear chip wipes the cmos (basically a reformat).

I haven't been at home so I can't pull my machine apart to help more than I have - I might suggest you look at a S+ the manual and see the pin outs.
You indicated part of the plug is giving a constant 120 - its possible that SSR completes the circuit on other pins and that allows the hopper to use the 120.

Thanks Jay. Everything you say makes sense to me. I will try using the clear chip and see if that fixes my issues. I am hoping to get this machine up and running before the grandkids come over during Christmas. They will sit there for hours and play, except when they run into the living room to tell us what they just "won". Good times. Thanks again guys.

Well shoot. Clearing the machine back to factory settings didn't work.  :banghead: After clearing the machine, I powered the machine up and everything worked as designed until I had a payout. I do have a question, in checking the wiring as Jim suggested would that be checking continuity or voltage? I am guessing continuity.

Read reply #11. I listed the voltage at position 1 and 2 while in the hopper test mode, 3.8 vdc

The other we’re continuity readings from the SSR TO motherboard where it would connect with the board.
What SP Chip are you using, what happens when you run the hopper test, that would be a #3 in the coins played window.

I am using SP 1048 and SS 3503 Red, White, and Blue 3 coin game. When I run the hopper test, the spin button does not light up so depressing it does not do anything. I am assuming it's because i have credits? I think I read somewhere there can be no credits when doing self test. If that is the case I will remove the cmos chip to clear the credits and try it again.

I cleared the credits on the machine and performed the hopper test. When I got the number 3 in the coins played window the spin button does not light up. It does light up and work during other settings such as setting hopper limits. So I checked the voltage at the SSR before and after depressing the button with no voltage to either hopper positions. I checked continuity as Jim instructed (I had to get a smaller meter to perform this) and everything on the motherboard checked out. I do have a question on Hopper position #1, the r23 to pin 9 of U-9 and Hopper position #2 r22 to pin 18 U23. Are these on the CPU board? That was the only ones I could find. If so there was continuity there also. I am so sorry about all of this. Y'all must be getting real frustrated with my inexperience. I do appreciate everything you do.

not familiar with the SP1048,  as with the SP1271, to test the hopper when #3 is in the window you have to turn the jackpot reset key to activate the test.

I believe I tried that but to be honest I'm not sure. I have tried so many things they could be running together. I will try that this evening. Thank you for the idea.

I tried turning the jackpot key and no voltage.  :pull_hair: Thanks Jay. I did look at that and as Jim pointed out it is similar to the 1271. It also points me to refer to the PSR for the 10 coin test. I don't know if that has different info or not. I looked at past posts and did find a link to the 1048 PSR but when I clicked it there was an error. I am not opposed to changing parts until we find the problem. At this point I don't know if there is any other viable options.

Here is an option, send me the mpu board( the one with the chips and battery), the mother board, (the board that the MPU board plugs into) and the hopper plate, (the metal part that the hopper slides into, it also contains the SSR.

I will put them in my machine and test all of them to see what is going on. you pay the shipping both ways.

OK guys. I can't thank you enough for everything you have done for me to get my machine up and running.  :applause: A special thank you goes out to Jim for figuring this out.  :hail: I sent him the CPU, motherboard, and hopper plugin. Apparently the SSR was bad. He sent everything back to me along with a more user friendly SP chip (thank you). I installed everything and first ran the hopper test. 10 coins spit out! I just wish I put the coin collector in first. My feet were going every direction trying to capture the coins as they hit the floor but I can guarantee they were happy feet.  :dancing_2: I played the machine until I had some winnings and it payed out as designed. Thanks again and you can marked this thread SOLVED!

Thank you very much for posting back.   :thank_you:

And of course a big shout out to Jim for helping yet another person enjoy this hobby  :hail:

Of course the question becomes - now that this one is up and running what machine are you buying next....  :banghead:
