S2000 "Display's NETPLEX link is down" PHOTOS ADDED

Likely picking up an S2000 today. Photos provided show this message in the display. Major issue or an easy fix?  I've searched the Forum and only found 1 post referencing this issue and there was no solution posed.
PS, it seems to have spent time north of the border, as instructions are in English & French. Label says Canadian Bills only. would this necessitate a BV replacement or is there a software fix?

Wish you could of showed us the rest of the display glass.

The reason why is because there are different options available for the right hand side depending on whether you have the short reel glass or the long reel glass.

The message on the blue VFD display in your photo says "Display's NETPLEX link is down"....the machine doesn't mean this one.

It means the other display on the right. Could we see it? 

Unless you have bundles of Canadian money to play with, you are going to have to get that bill head somewhere re-programmed for USD money.

That I don't know much about...some guys know a LOT more about bill acceptors than I do.

First thing I would do. 

Open the door, pull out the MPU and look for a varta battery.  If it's there and corroded put it back in, close the door get back in vehicle and drive back home.

Display Netflix link down is the display showing it is saying it cant talk to the mpu. If its blinking then you most likely have a 1270 board and the green varta is dead. If its sold and the other display shows no disp then your board is booting but cant communicate with the display this is usually a bad printer or bill acceptor, but can also be a bad mpu mother board vfd or harnesses. If you get a solid error but no error on the other display this is usually power supply mpu or bad input voltage (110 going into the machine).

As for the bill validator it depends on the validator and the the specific model of head.

Thank you. there is a lot of stuff that can cause this error but thats the quick and simple. I have refurbished my fair share if s2000s and this is one of the most common problems i have seen.

I can probably pick it up for $200. I'm a novice, but that seems like a smoking deal for the cabinet, topper etc. Would you get it? Sure its going to need work. Looking for all of you more experienced members' opinions. Has keys, appears complete if not fully functioning......

$200 if your planning to keep it  I would probably grab it. Worst case it needs an mpu. Those are fairly rare right now but they they can be found and there are a few people that fix them including me.

OK, picked it up for $200. Got it home and have begun the revival process. Its a 1270 enhanced board. I removed the Varta battery & U16. The Varta battery had a bit of flaky powder corrosion on it, but not much, and there was no apparent damage to the board. I also replaced the CR2354 button battery as well.

Sometimes, when powered up, all the lights come on, the BV cycles, the "NETPLEX link down" message appears, the other side is blank, and the LEDs on the board look like the first photo, all on solid except the second from the top which is off.

Other times, when switched on, all lights come on, BV does nothing, no error messages appear (all blank) and the LEDs on the board are all on solid, except for the red one at the bottom which flashes.

This leads me to believe the power supply might be involved. Previous owner just plugged and unplugged rather than using the switch. Some say that can cause issues, I dont know.

I've tried unplugging all of the ballasts, the fan and the topper. When unplugged, I do not get the "NETPLEX link down" error, I get nothing except lights, and the LEDs on the board all on solid except the flashing red at the bottom.

Does anyone have a legend or a breakdown of what the individual LEDs signify?

That red LED on the side of the MPU is bad sign...usually means software or MPU problems.

Show us a photo of the MPU (especially near the cylindrical green Varta battery area) and the installed software.

Red led means cpu is being reset on a 1270 board that can be anything from a major board fault to to the supply voltage is too low or the wrong frequency.
