Good morning. Im sorry to be asking for so much help. After my successful game conversion, i took it upon myself to use the set 015 chip to try and get my bill acceptor to work. I followed the instructions... i pulled the game chip, put in the set chip making sure it was in the right direction. When i power up, it gave me the 65 0 code on the winner paid display. It seems this code is a bad eprom code. maybe my set chip is not working or not sure what.
I put back my game chip, still in the correct way. When i power up, it displays 61 as it should, i close the door, turn the jackpot key and it then displays 61 1, but then right after in the winner paid display it shows 01. Im not sure if its putting me in some sort of menu, but i dont know how to get out of it. After waiting a minute, it switches from 01 to 65 0.
Not sure what ive done wrong here, hopefully someone has seen this before or can guide me in me stupidity.

I did the reset button, gave me 61 1, but then it goes to some other code on the screen (01), if i press nothing after a minute it gives me 65 0. i cant get past the 61 1
all my doors are closed at this point, in fact i havent touched the bill acceptor or cash door since i got the machine.

We're missing something here.

Turn on machine. Code 61 in display?

If so, press the and hold the white reset button until you hear a "ding" and the display should turn to 61_1

Did that work? If so then close and latch the main door. Then turn the jackpot reset key 1 time.

Display should go blank and after a few seconds the machine should spin the reels and be ready for play.

Does that happen? If not what does it do?

I power up the machine, 61 is displayed:

Then i hold the reset button for a few seconds, 61 1 is displayed:

Then i close the door, turn the jackpot key, but rather then the 61 1 disappearing and the game becoming operational, i get this (credits played lights up with a 1, but cant get it to show in the photo simultaneously with the 01 in winner paid)

At this point, it seems as im in some sort of menu since if i push the buttons or turn the jackpot key again, the numbers in the various displays change and i have no idea what they mean.
If i leave the machine as is after turning the jackpot key (01 was displayed), after a minute or so, the 01 disappears and i get the 65 0 code again.

If i turn off the machine, and turn it back on, its the same sequence of 61, then 61 1, then 01 after turning jackpot key... ive tried several times now .

Ok. 65_0 indicates the machine is seeing a problem with the EEPROM which is located on the backplane (motherboard) that the MPU plugs into.

Try this. If your machine has a battery installed in a battery holder remove it and put it back in. If it doesn't then pop the CMOS RAM chip out (U51) next to the Game Prom and put it back in. That will clear the CMOS RAM memory. Then go through the 61 error sequence again and hopefully it won't come up with a 65_0 error this time.

i appreciate that advice, ill try that when i get home tomorrow morning. Here is a pic of my board, my battery is soldered on

so its that small eprom i pop out and put back in? i remove the board, pull the chip, put it back in then put the board back in?

Wow, I'm glad you posted that pic. No DO NOT remove that chip, it's definitely not the CMOS RAM

Please post a picture of the entire MPU board and a photo that shows the entire insides of your machine too. The pic you posted doesn't look like any S+ MPU board I've seen before.

Ok, I dug through some of my S+ docs and your MPU board has a different part number and component layout than mine. U58 is the one to remove and put back in it's socket on your board. You should see a label on the circuit board that says CMOS. It will be next to the GAME PROM (U57) and should be in a socket too. No need for pictures now.

It looks like it is U56 if im looking at it correctly, its a weird looking part, does it just pull off?

Ok, you got me stumped with that one. I honestly don't know. Can you tell from looking at it if it's installed in a socket or not? It almost looks like a Dallas battery backed CMOS RAM chip to me, but I've never seen one installed on a S+ MPU board before. Doesn't mean they didn't make them that way probably for certain jurisdictional requirements. But then why would the MPU have a backup battery installed too?

Do you have a clear chip? As much as I hate them (because they often create lots of other setup problems), that may be your only way out of this? I'd let it ride for a couple of days and see if someone else who may have experience with this MPU board before doing anything though.

As far as embedded pics go, it's better if you can reduce them in size so that they are less than 1MB and post them directly. Reason for that is one day your pic hosting account and link will eventually expire and so will the pictures. When someone finds this thread through a google search the photos will be gone since they weren't hosted on NLG's server.

I dont have a clear chip, kinda screwed up the set015 chip when i last removed it, i pushed the legs back in place, but to begin with it was not in the greatest shape. I also have a chip labelled set 089.

as for the U56 chip, it does look like a chip from the side but im not sure how to get it off, i tried to gently pull at it but its pretty firmly in place, dont want to force it. Here is a closer shot of that chip

It looks like it's soldered in to me. There's another thing you can try. When you get the 65_0 code displayed press and hold the self test buttons for a couple of seconds and see if it clears.

looking at your pictures that board is a 16mhz board, don't know if that sp chip is compatible? I thought their was a limited number of sp chips for 16 meg boards 1272??

just checked the sp list, yes that's a good sp chip for a 16 meg board, set 086 is the chip to set up the bill unit.

so if i need a set 089, and having used the set 015, did i screw up the game completely? If i get my hands on a set 089 and do the swap should that fix my current issue?

The set chip won't fix your problem, but you will need it to re-enable your bill validator and set the machine denomination. Did you try pressing the reset for a couple of seconds when the 65_0 error was active?

Check with member RB for both the set and clear chips for it.

I sent RB a pm for set chip and clear chips. While im waiting for to get my hands on those chips, any advice on how to get my machine working without the bill acceptor?

So i just tried holding down the reset button when the 65 0 shows up, it just seems to put me back in some sort of menu system.

Is there a resource here somewhere that can help me with all these menus? i suspect its putting me in some sort of settings menu, but it makes no sense to me as i dont know what is what.

I think you're going to have to clear it to get rid of the error, so you're stuck right now I think You can do a google search on S+ 65_0 and the return list will show threads on it here and the old forum that you can read through.

Here's the program summary report for your game chip that should help you decipher the numbers.

It looks like you may need to replace the EEprom on the motherboard ( the board that the MPU board plugs into ) It is an 8 pin IC usually in a socket.

Get the number off of it - see if you want to purchase one. If you like I should have them - I can send you one and a socket if you need one. PM me.

Are these machines that finicky that me having used the wrong set chip require me to change this eeprom you are talking about? it was working perfectly fine before so im a bit surprised.

Is this the motherboard you are referring too? I dont really see much on it...
