It's this little guy.  I haven' t seen an S+ with that EEPROM socketed.  I installed a socket on one of my S+ machines.  Had to cut the plastic because it won't go back on if the chip is in a socket.  It's too tall then.

I'm not convinced that it's bad, the machine seems to think so though.  I think it may be corrupted and once cleared will work again.  The clear chip will erase that EEPROM and the CMOS RAM and then set everything up to default settings.  That's why you only want to use a clear as a last resort.  You're going to be spending some time digging through menus to get all the options set back up the way you want them to be.

alrighty, so i got my hands on a set 090 chip and a clear chip.  I popped in the clear chip, did the procedure, then put the game chip back in, the game is now running again.  Seems to be working like before.  I thought there would be a complicated setup process, but there was nothing to do really other than what i when i changed the game.   Im a bit nervous to try the set chip for the bill acceptor.  I noticed when i did one of the chip swaps, 3 of the pins on the mpu didnt go into the motherboard properly and got bent.  I straightened them and its working now, but a bit worried that they are more fragile now and dont want to completely break it. 

So now that ive done a clear, but didnt set any options (yet the game works just fine), if i want to try the set090 chip to enable the bill acceptor, should it theoretically work?

You should be ok with the set chip.  If you destroy the eprom,  I have the blank eproms and can program.

RB will have the eprom too.

Yes, you need to be careful with those pins.  You can bend them once or twice and then they'll break off.  Luckily yours are pretty easy and cheap to replace if that happens.  I always recommend using the right tool for the job when removing socketed IC chips.  It can save you a lot of grief.  Some people like to use small bent screwdrivers, but that's still pretty risky in my opinion.  Using a straight screwdriver very often results in bent legs on the opposite side and I've also seen damaged traces under the IC from scraping the PCB with tip of the screwdriver.

All that said, if you don't care about using your BV then you don't need to use the SET chip.  You will probably find a bunch of the default settings aren't to your liking or the same as what they were before you cleared it.  For example now every time I win something it pays from the hopper instead of adding to the credit meter.  The toughest thing sometimes is trying to figure out what option is causing the behavior you want to change.  It's not always as straight forward as it should be.

I actually still would really like to get that damn bill acceptor to work.  Getting annoyed feeding quarters into it, this machine doesn't pay, pretty sure its fixed
I found there is a guy who is local who can make eproms, I asked him if he can copy my game chip, he asked if it was actually an eprom or just a chip... not sure what the answer is.

As for the options, reading the "manual" it says: To change the option setting, press the Spin Reels button.  To move to the next page zero option, turn the jackpot reset key.  To move to Group 3 at any time within the zero pages, press the self test button

If im reading this correctly, i push the spin button (which one, max but or the spin button?) to change the option, turn the jackpot key to move to the next option correct?

An option id like to change is the hand pay amount, id like to change it from the default which i assume is 1000, to 9999.  Would that be the group 3:

Hopper Limit <7> [1]   Determines when hand pays and hopper pays occur.
Jackpot Limit <7> [2]   Any single win over this limit causes the machine to go to a hand-pay condition.

As for that eprom puller, i counted there are 14 pins per side on these chips, that one says 24-40 (or does it account for total pins?)

your S+ chips are eproms.

The SS chip (reel) is a 27C64 IC
The SP chip (game) is a 27C512 IC

Group is like top menu so self test to get to next group in the menu

Spin button is the select button for what setting you want to change

Reset/Jackpot/Attendant key is next setting you want to change or look at

If you search a little bit on the S+ forum you can probably find a link ( or picture ) for the information that explains what the settings are and how to use the buttons.)

Hope that helps. Actually - just play around a little bit and you will understand what switch does what. The problem is pressing the wrong button at the wrong time and the machine doing what it is programmed to do, when you think you are doing the right thing always messes me up. IE - pressing the max bet button when I should press the spin button or such. Or pressing the spin button instead of turning the key....

As for the eprom puller it is total pins - so 24 to 40 pin IC's can be pulled with that one. ( 12 to 20 pins on a side )

Do the set chip like you know and get the BV working. If you mess up the chip they are not too expensive to replace. $10 each is about the going the rate - programmed.

Thanks for all the help guys.  I managed to go through the options, i thought it would be a smart idea to up the limits of the machine to 9999 for the credits, 9999 for payouts... i hit a 9000 credit "jackpot" yesterday so now i cant change the options until i bring the credits down to 0.  From what ive read the only way to clear the credits is to cash out and keep refilling my 400 or so quarters into the hopper, or do a clear which id prefer to avoid.

On a side note, while i was doing all this stuff, i noticed this inside the machine.  It appears to be wax, but I'm no expert.  Its on the right side of the machine, it looks like it dripped from the interior mechanism of the slot machine arm.  Any clue what this is?

If you have a different ss chip swap chips, do the 61 61-1 thing then put back in your ss chip and do it again.

That's correct.  You're stuck with all those credits unless you clear it. 

That looks like rubber goo from the bumper on the slot handle assembly.  It deteriorates over the years and gets sticky.  I've never seen one quite that bad though.

I had the orange goo pile on my S2000, stopper completely disintegrated into the goo.

I have cleared my credits, did the set chip 090 to enable the bill validator (set 9 1), then set the denom to 25.  I turned it back on, bill acceptor cycled, but still wont take any bills.

Which explains to put the dip switches in a certain way, then switch #8 with the machine on.  It did nothing, so i put back all the dip switches to the way there were originally (all set to OFF), turned the machine back on, now it wont even cycle the bill acceptor as it did before, its like i took a step backwards here.  Any suggestions?

Here is my bill acceptor hardware: WBA-22-SS CAN-502-24    / transport is: WBA-23-SS CAN-522-03-15
The chip in there reads: 024-CAN 3.09-40 (i think)
When its installed, i can see two red LEDs on beside the dip switches.

You are using ID024 software in your WBA. That is correct for a S2000 but not S Plus. You need ID023. I'm not sure of there is 023 software for CAN plastic money.

Yes there is US software that takes everything except the newest $100. You can use your transport but need a US head. WBA10, 11, 12, 13 heads are interchangeable.
