S Plus won't go to 61-1 after replacing battery

When I press the white test switch after I installed a new battery & put the MPU board back in the game it does not go to 61-1, just stays on 61. It has an SP731 chip on the board if that matters. Anybody had this issue before? Thanks in advance

replacing battery almost always requires a clear.  You can try using a different sp chip to force the system to re-initialize, that fixes it sometimes for me.

The SP1271 chip took care of my problem, thanks Rick. Since I did a RAM clear trying to get this fixed earlier, what all settings will I need to go change?

Don't know, depends on what you want.  Most of the defaults are ok, unless you want to change things like hopper limits, credit limits, credit options, etc.  Also probably enable bill validator.  The S+ really doesn't have many settings worth messing with if you don't setup a progressive.

Thanks, I've got all the settings set to how I want them now, I just got to figure out why my quarters are going to the hopper but not registering. I've turned the sensitivity all the way clockwise and then a 1/4 turn clockwise but the quarters are still not registering. The test button on the coin optics board is working and I can soun the reels with pressing that button 3 times, guess I'll check and see if the optics are dirty or damaged tomorrow

Try changing the sample coin. I have had to do that occasionally over the years. Its kind of like the coin loses its metal properties.

I've turned the sensitivity all the way clockwise and then a 1/4 turn clockwise but the quarters are still not registering. The test button on the coin optics board is working and I can soun the reels with pressing that button 3 times, guess I'll check and see if the optics are dirty or damaged tomorrow

Its weird, not sure if your problem resolved itself.  But when i last did a clear, then did my options, for a good 10 minutes, i could not get a darn quarter to get recognized, then for some reason on its own it started accepting the quarters, rejecting many, than after several more quarters put through, its back to normal where it accepts most quarters.  Dont understand it.

The sensitivity dial is really a potentiometer dial that basically works on resistance like a variable resistor.

Turning the dial all the way counter clockwise, then turning it clockwise a 1/4 turn puts the resistance in the ballpark area for coin acceptance.

The differences depends on the oxidization on the resistance track - between that and the dial wiper.


Offhand I don't recall what happens if you turn the dial all the clockwise...

If I had a coin comparitor next to me I would test to see what happens if the dial was set like that...should accept any coins right?

Might give you instant coin acceptance rather than later?

Try increments of 1/4 clockwise, 1/2 a turn clockwise, etc.etc.

However you set it determines coin acceptance but I would try cleaning the dial with some de-oxidization spray first.

Test with a Canadian quarter.....the point at which it accepts a Canadian quarter is too far.

Sounds like the main capacitor inside the coin comparator needs to be replaced, it is taking to long to charge to full voltage.
Could also be the spacer inside the coin optic board assembly could be for a 50c or $1 coin and not a quarter.
