I-Game converting to LCD reluctantly

Picked up a "Catch a Wave" sight unseen.  Well I should have seen it first!  Lesson learned.  Anyhow a mouse made a home in this machine and decided the monitor chassis was the optimal place to setup home.  Needless to say the mouse peed and pood all over the board.  It also managed to get pee all under the anode cap which caused the anode probe to corrode to crap which in turn caused the coating to flake off where the anode connects to the cathode.

Long story short is I doubt I'll be able to find ANY parts to fix this thing.  I'm a little bummed as I prefer a good working CRT over LCD any day.

Anyhow I am going to bite the bullet and order a Ceronix LCD to convert this over.

Here's a couple questions.

Door mounted or chassis mounted?  Any pros or cons to either method?  Without any input I would lean toward the door mounted as wouldn't that create a bunch of free space where the CRT chassis would normally sit?

I am going to call them tomorrow to make sure these kits are 100% inclusive before ordering one.

The unit that is in the machineis a Kortek KT-1703N.  I can't find a single schematic for this let alone a flyback.........

CRTs in good shape do look good, but more often than not the ones from casinos have a lot of image burn which really detracts from them in my opinion.

I have both.  The door mounted one looks like it was a custom fab of some type.  I like it because as you suggested you can use that space to store things.  I keep extra MPUs with different games in mine. 

That said, I don't think Ceronix made a door mounted version.  You can call them and ask, but I haven't seen one on their website or installed in a machine.

Yes, if it weren't for all the pee damage I would repair this.  Since where the anode connects to the cathode is all but destroyed on the cathode end I doubt there's much I can do without a donor monitor.  I did find that KT-1703NA manual but wasn't sure if it was the right one but after discovering the damage at the tube itself.......

I have been browsing the Ceronix site and it appears you can get both door or chassis mounted.  I'm leaning heavily toward door mounted to utilize that big void that will be made behind it......like you did.

I really didn't want to go that route but the board on this monitor is ROUGH!

Could I get it working?  Most likely.

Would it take a ton of time?  Yep.

If I needed a flyback would I be able to get one for this monitor or chasis specific parts for it?  I don't think it would be easy.........

Therefore LCD it is.  I'll hold onto this chassis.  In the future if I end up with another machine that has the same / similar chassis I'll have parts etc etc.

I placed the order through their website.  They accepted my order, charged my card and says "pending" on order status.

I did order door mounted and will happily take a few pictures as I install it.

Anything in specific you need pictures of?

Not to hijack the thread, but I just converted from an old burned in CRT to a Ceronix last week.  Chassis mounted, 25 pin 17 inch Gameking.
Sometimes I have to jiggle the monitor to get the colors correct, but my main concern is the faint bars that appeae in the picture attached.  I bought it brand new from Ceronix ($$$$$) and it came out of the box with a funky pixel which is always green.  But these bars are really upsetting.  It's an old 3902, so Im guessing the issue is most likely something on my board.  Anyone ever seen this?

I would find out what their stuck pixel policy is, you may be able to return it just for that.  That's a lot of $$$ for a monitor.

I would disconnect the 25 pin and connect the monitor to power by itself and see if the bars are still there.

Yeah Lisa is pretty awesome and seems to know the monitors well. She sent me a troubleshooting guide about 5 minutes ago.  I accidentally hit the auto-adjust button and for whatever reason the bars are gone.  Easy fix (touch wood).

I got the monitor today.  The fitment to the door is excellent!  The only issue I have so far is the cables that go from the touchscreen circuit board on the back of the monitor to the 19 pin are very short.  With the 19 pin plugged in I can only open the door about 1/2 way before it's yanking those small cables......

I have emailed Ceronix, I suspect whoever built the harness used the wrong 2 for the touchscreen to 19 pin.

The colors aren't quite right but I suspect that's my machine as I never had it working with the CRT.......

I only put it in tonight and slid a few boards in to test.  I have done zero troubleshooting yet........

I'm certain the color issue isn't their monitor but rather my backplane or wiring harness.  Long story but I will figure it out this weekend!

After chatting back and forth with Ceronix it turns out the wires that go from 19 pin to touchscreen controller are going to be short if you go this route.  In other words if you go door mounted you will NOT be able to open the door with out tearing the wires off the touch screen controller PCB OR reaching in your machine and disconnecting the 19 pin.  They're just too short.  For some reason they don't offer a longer harness to allow you to open the door fully.  In my opinion that's a pretty crappy because all they'd have to do is simply make those two harnesses a foot longer.

Their resolution was send it back and go with chassis mounted (I pay shipping both ways) or to just cut and lengthen the wires (which I did)

I can't recommend their door mounted unit to anyone unless you are ok with lengthening the wires or they start including a longer harness.

What's the point of door mounted if you can't open your door or have to remember to disconnect the 19 pin each time?  You WILL rip the connectors off your circuit board if you don't.  Plus the space gained to store things isn't useable because of it.
