IGT S+ Payout question

Hello my name is Joe and I have been a member for a few months now. I really appreciate all of the information on the forum as it has allowed me to repair 2 IGT S+ machines that had sat in storage for years in my friends garage. I have a varied background starting in the early 70's working com/nav on air force F-4's, robotics and CAD CAM retiring last June after 40 years with Xerox. I have also worked on pins and have owned a few. I'm in the Dayton Ohio area.

The First Double Diamond IGT was simple and only needed a battery and a good cleaning and reseating connectors.   
The second Red White and Blue was more changeling. The battery leaked and destroyed the MPU and backplane. Thanks to Alan at KLAR I have replacement PCB's installed and all seems to be working as it should except for the following.

My question is why does the slot pay out 3 coins with nothing on the payout line? Is this normal? Attached is a pic of what is happening.

It is for a 3CM RW&B.  If you look at the bottom line of the award glass you'll see blank blank blank pays 3.

There are 3 possible causes.
The reel strips are in the wrong place
You have the wrong reel strips
You have the wrong reel baskets.

If you remove the reel strip there will be numbers on them. Please post the numbers, and post your reel chip number. This will allow us to tell you if the reel strips are right for your game.
- This information is found on the IGT PAR sheet which some kind member might send your way. The PAR sheet is the paytable and Reel sheet and describes the behavior of your machine, pay out percentages and what not.
- Some themes have all the same strips while others have 3 different strips.
- Sometimes the reel strips differ by %% payback of the reel chip as well (not common but sometimes).

While you have the reel strip off note that there is a knotch on the reel strip. This gets lined up with a little nib inside the rim of the reel basket. If you don't see it or feel it you can use the tip of a pencil to find it - just put it in the reel and slowly turn it until the pencil runs into an obstruction - thats the nib.

There are two kinds of reel baskets - ST are for the slant top - they are electrically identical to the ones used in the upright slots. The difference is that in a slant top they are mounted at a different angle thus what you see in the pay glass is different than if they are used in an upright. If you use Slant Top baskets in a upright model they will work just fine but you will have to move (offset) the reel strip from the little nub to make the right symbol show up in your payglass for the win. You mentioned you had more than one slot - take a look at the reel baskets in each and see if they have different codes (ST vs ?) or a different part number on them.

There's a few themes that do.  Blackjack, Black Tie, and Hot Peppers are some that can think of off the top of my head.

Red white and blue, wild star red white and blue, double red white and blue, red white and blue deluxe and all their clones. Chaos does too (red white and blue haywire). Also sizzling 7s and bonus sizzling 7s.

I had quite a few of these games that pay on blanks.

When you first set these games up, you will notice that after boot up and before playing the first game, only the first two reels will stop on the bottom of the strips - the 3rd reel will stop on the 1st symbol instead.
