IGT S+ PE+ bill acceptor adapter ID003 to ID023

This protocol emulator/adapter convert id003 to the no longer supported id023 protocol used in the igt S+ and PE+ machines. In that way you can use a newer JCM bill validator in your S+ / PE+ that accepts newer bills.

The adapter is tested with following ID003 bill acceptors: UBA, taiko and WBA 12/13. The adapter should however work with any id003 bill acceptor. If you allready have a WBA 12/13 acceptor in your machine you can upgrade the firmware on the bill acceptor to newest ID003 bill set and get updated bill support without changing bill acceptor. This would require to change the firmware eprom in the WBA.

The device wires in line with the the s+ bill acceptor power supply and the acceptor. The conectors are screw terminals that can easily be plugged in and out from the board.

I have added support for ''free play'' switches, for those who want to add credits with a push button. Any push button like the service switch or a key switch could be used to add credits to play for free at home.

*Note: free play switches are not opto isolated.

*Note: Miswiring may damadge interface board.

*Note: you need a software in your S+ / PE+ machine that support ID023 protocol. In older documentation this is sometimes refered to as "version 2.4" or "version 2.5".

FAQ:

How do I know if my PE+ supports ID023 protocol?
Go into the menu by pressing the white test button. If you find a option that says "Country code: xx", it is most likely ID023. The reason you can assume this is that the older ID022 did not use country code.

So what if I don't find the option that say "country code: xx" on my PE+ ?
Your machine most likely does not support ID023 protocol. You can not use the interface board "out of the box". You would need to change software eproms on your machine to be able to use the interface board.

How do I know if my S+ supports ID023 protocol? (Methode 2 is prefered)
Methode 1) Go into the menu by pressing the white test button. Press a couple of times until you see Selection <0> [5], then use the reset switch to navigate forward in the sub menu. If you find the <0> [20], that is the option for country code and you most likely have support for ID023.
*NOTE 1: If option 17 (bill acceptor enable) is set to 0, option 20 will not show.
*NOTE 2: some SP chips, like SP1271, uses <0> [9] for Bill Acceptor Display. It looks like country code is displayed under <0> [30].

Methode 2) If you are a newlifegames member, you can download spreadsheet https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=33460.0. Look up your SP chip number in the list. If it supports bill validator protocol "ID023", "Version 2.4" or "Version 2.5" it is most likely ID023 support.

So what if I don't have ID023 support on my S+?
You can not use the interface board "out of the box". You would need to change software eprom on your machine to be able to use the interface board.

Do I need anything else to use set up the machine to work with the adapter?
You might need a SET chip to activate the bill acceptor, set the country code and set the denomination.

It's native to JCM (Japan Cash Machine), produsent of bill validators. It's not branded by a machine manufactor. It's widly used, but you will only find JCM bill acceptors supporting it. Example MEI acceptors will not support ID003 protocol.

I don't think bezel is the same for S+ and S2000. Some S+ have a smaller opening in the door that will not accommodate a S2000 bezel. There is a smaller black duckbill that fits the S+.

The s2000 bezel for UBA comes in different width. Same does the S+ door opening that needs to fit the bezel. It's different width on the door opening part and the bill validator bezel to different currency. You need to see that you get the bill validator bezel matching the width in the door opening. I know a S2000 bezel fits and I have used it several times. On some S+ machines I had to replace the door plastic to a wider one to match the bill validator bezel.

WBA duckbill bezels are exactly the same size for S plus and S2000. The only difference is the color. UBA duckbills are slighty wider due to the increased width of the bill path. WBA duckbills will fit a UBA. UBA duckbills will NOT fit a WBA. The S plus door bezels vary depending on whether the machine was made to accommodate a DBV (early manufacturing) or a WBA (mid-late 90's). For it to fit properly you need the later one with the wider door bezel. Otherwise you can trim the duckbill or open up the door opening to accommodate the correct door bezel. I prefer the latter. About 1/8 - 3/16" off both sides will allow the wider door bezel to fit without butchering up the duckbill. A cut off wheel and a steady hand works great. Cuts don't have to be extremely precise as the bezel covers will cover imperfections to an extent. Hope this clears up the speculation and some misleading info that has been presented. See pics.

If the guide rails under the cashbox are held into place by screws (not welded) it will also have the wider BV opening in the cabinet.  This is easiest way to tell.

For some reason they will not display but I can download then view them. I had them saved in icloud.

Update: Got the picture issue straightened out. First 2 pics are with a DBV door bezel and the end trimmed off the duckbill. Next pics are with the door opening trimmed and the correct WBA door bezel. If you are fortunate enough to have a S plus that came with a WBA 10/11, the door opening should already be correct.

Hooking this up this S+ Interface board as we speak. 
I've hooked up the black power supply to the left 4-pin connector on the interface board.

Does anyone know the wiring pinout of this harness that runs from the back of the UBA to the Interface board connector? 
I saw  it in the youtube video, but it was too small to make the pinouts clearly.

I can figure out pins #1(Red) and #2(Black) that go to the 12V and 0V pins.
Those are obviously running as 12 volts DC...but I'm not sure what colored wires from the BV go to the other two pins on that green plug.

Finally the dips on the UBA-10-SS, should they all be down/OFF?

Shot out an email to him....he's in Norway...I'll probably figure it out.

I figured out a few things...especially the wiring from the UBA back to the Interface board.
There's 7 colored wires on one side of the plug coming out of the UBA.
From the bottom pin #1 to the top pin #7...>>>

#1 Red gets spliced with the #5 Orange wire to the 12v pin on the Interface.
#2 Black gets spliced with the #7 Green wire to the 0v pin on the Interface.
#3 Brown is not used.
#4 Red goes to the RX pin on the Interface.
#5 Orange gets spliced with the #1 Red wire to the 12v pin on the Interface.
#6 Yellow goes to the TX pin on the Interface.
#7 Green gets spliced with the #2 Black wire to the 0v pin on the Interface.

The UBA is pulling in bills, but spitting them back out.
I'm getting 10 green LED flashes...according to JCM Reject Error Code Table means..."Bill Return Command" also..."Check DIP Switches for proper Settings" and "Bills Inhibited by Host Machine"
I have to go back into the SET086 chip settings to see what I can change.
Instructions for SET086 chip are also in the PSR for SP1137.

I changed the token value to a ".25"...just for the heck of it. haha
Bill acceptor set to "enabled".
Country code set to "USA".
Set the denomination to 25 cents as well.
Shut off the machine, pulled out the SET chip, re-installed SP1137.
Threw the MPU into the motherboard sockets, and flipped on the power switch.

I am glad you got it solved and up running. And thank you for posting the wiring colors codes / pinout for the UBA, and how you got it setup working. I am sure someone else will find this helpfull at some point. Also thank you for posting your video with your test machine.

Just for reference. Things that needs to be setup correctly is:
- Bill validator must be enabled
- Country code (must be set to 37, regardless of the currency)
- Denomination must be set
- Machine limits
